Daft question, but bear with me...

Do Labs eyes range in colours just like ours do? On the post pics of dogs thread, there was a black lab with blue eyes whereas mine is brown.

Just wondering......

Not sure about Labs but I have a Weimaraner. Beautiful blue eyes as a pup but changed to a kind of amber now.

Presume other breeds have similar characteristics.

Not from what I've seen, they all have brown, sometimes one blue, one brown, that's a cross breed though I think. Sure they are all brown, but I stand to be corrected of course so don't panic yet.

What is up with yours?

hehe

From here............... http://www.akc.org/breeds/labrador_retriever/index...

"Eye color should be brown in black and yellow Labradors, and brown or hazel in chocolates. Black, or yellow eyes give a harsh expression and are undesirable."

Friend has a black lab with almost no sight - his eyes are bright blue!

Not being able to see doesn't seem to bother him much; you almost can't tell from the way he behaves. Just goes to show that they use their other senses a lot more than we do!

I had to take my lab to the Opticians a couple of years ago, wonderfull work the way they checked him over and then told me he was now officially middle aged and if human would be needing his first set of glasses. I would have got him some but he couldn't decide on the frames wink No seriously the doggie optician was a genius.

Oh and he's a Brown lab that had blue eyes as a pup which then turned to brown.

I think all puppies have blue eyes, which change as they grow.

People always ask that wink They actaully have put alot of thought into animal mentality to get them to do what they want to. The "Veternary Optomitrist" got him to put his face close enough to hers so that she could look into his eyes, she then pressed a thumb switch which set little led's off flashing in different diections and the dog instictively looked in the required direction, it was a dog way of saying "look left" "look up" "look down" etc etc. She then had instead of a board with letters a set of flashing lights on a dimmer, she looked for a reaction from the dog with the light at it's dimmest then went brighter and brighter till she got a reaction. It was brilliant to watch how they worked but not so brilliant when she said he had the very early signs of cataracts frown

Nothing, it cost him a couple of hundred quid though. wink (My dog has had his own bank account since he was a pup into which he gets £20/month pocket money as a self insurance policy) So yes I guess really it did cost me a couple of hundred quid. These people don't come cheap http://www.aht.org.uk/sa_ophthalmology.html
