Mild wee warmer - woman wants to WFH when 'depressed'
Discussion
Listening to a segment on radio 4 last night.
Some woman had been offered a job as a lawyer, then had the offer withdrawn when the firm got her medical history reply back because she had taken a few months off with 'depression' in the previous couple of years. Which sound a bit harsh assuming she's had the cause treated and it's not expected to happen again.
But no. This woman seems genuinely surprised that the firm didn't employ her and went on to say that she'd spoken to their HR person and and said that all she needed to be able to deal with the 'depression' was to be able to have a few days 'working from home'when she felt the need.
She then went on to say that she could 'manage' her depression herself...because if she woke up in the morning and had feelings of anxiety and worry, then she could take a day or so off to WFH until these feelings had passed and she could return to the office.
WTF??? These feelings of anxiety in the morning aren't depression, it's her worrying that she's gonna get a b
king for not having done something that she should have done. So the fvcking bint uses her 'depression' as an excuse to avoid going in and facing the music, skulking around at home until the heat has passed.
Fark me.... and then she's surprised when the firm decide that maybe they could find someone more suited from the miriad of people looking for work... like someone who is actually going to turn up in the mornings.
When did people start to think that treating an employer like this is in any way acceptable... especially before you've even started the fricken job!
Loving the title change to 'wee' - excellent

agree with tonker on this one - i wouldn't touch her with a bargepole.
if you have had time off work getting employed again is a nightmare.
I know a guy I work with off with stress - been off for a while. I don't know what/how/when he'll come back to work or how he'll ever get another job unless he goes it alone. He may try to sit it out until retirement on his income protection.
Problem is that the new company recruiting people like him might never know.if you have had time off work getting employed again is a nightmare.

For example, the company I work for do not give references of any kind-all they will do is confirm your start date and leaving date, so potentially the new comapny wont know if you have been off for 6 months.
I know if they do a medical check it will show, but not every company bother with that.
