So the milk leaked from the shopping and went on the back seat. Now it stinks. Can anybody suggest anything that might be better than febreeze for getting the stink out?

(Its a new mini, not the BMW in my profile)

There is a product you can get from vets and pet places that contains enzymes that kind of 'absorb' the smell. I forget the name though.. Google it ?

if you havent already, getting a decent upholstery cleaner (carpet cleaner) on it will help, even more so with a decent detergent in it smile

In my experience there is nothing you can do really, either put up with it or get a new seat.

I remember when i was a kid somebody spilt a 2 pinter in Dads 7 series...wasn't amused. Somebody else also left their wax crayons on the rear parcel shelf on a hot summer day....again....

put baking soda on it (rub it in hard), leave it 24hrs and hoover off

It does actually work, it will remove 80% of the smell but not 100%

Sprinkle it liberally with bicarbonate of soda, leave overnight and vacuum it up. Then a Fabreze.

Fraid so. It will have soaked into the foam and is now turning into cheese.

Spray it with a 50/50 mix of white wine vinegar and water.
It will smell of vinegar but when its dried that will vanish.
Also the bicarb of soda method coupled with above.
Worked for kids bedroom carpet after he was sick on it

Nothing you can do will get rid of the smell short of a new seat.

By bloody wife has done the 'put the shopping on the back seat and crush the 4l milk carton' twice.

Both times a new seat - even the leather one absorbed enough milk to stink the car out.

Gets into the sponge base and stays there.

I tried everything mentioned above.

I even tried taking the seat apart and soaking the base in the bath - didn't work.

To give you idea just how bad it was, even with the roof down the smell was enough to make you queasy.

When the spare fuel can leaked in my car and it stank of petrol the local valeter quoted over £100 for an "odour kill clean". Thought sod that and bought some Oust air sanitiser for about £2. I got the one with a little battery powered fan and left it in the car for a few days and it did the trick.

Well looks it would appear that there is a reason to now 'cry over spilt milk'

Sorry someone had to say it... I'm now leaving

I once ran a bar.. I had to go to the cash and carry and in the middle of a hot summer didnt notice a pack of smoked salmon slipped under drivers seat..

Now I have virtually no sense of smell however, when I gave my first passenger a lift about 3 weeks later they almost fainted from the smell. It never went.
