I did post before about my internal fans that would work for a bit and then after a while would stop. It would last longer on the slow speed than on the fast speed.

They don't work at all anymore and I want to get it fixed. My garage have suggested that its the resistor pack.

I have a few questions:

Do all 3 speeds go through the resistor as in the Mondeo it didn't so normally setting 4 would work and the others wouldn't (indicating its the resistor).

Other than replacing this with the same part, is there a better part to get?

Someone did mention that the wires to the fan motor may be breaking down and best to relplace them. I don't want to think its the motor at this point as I can't understand why one of them would break down otherwise it would be happening in loads of other cars?

Cheers

The wiring diagram I have shows high speed connection goes into resistor box but not through a resistor just straight out to the fan motor which makes sense. It does sound like a fault in the box somewhere. I'm afraid I have no idea as to the resistor box origins or any options.

The original resistor pack IS a joke, you would be better of fitting an escort Mk 4/5 fan unit with its "proper" resistor pack, the fit is identical after having cut off a couple of plastic mounting lugs and drilling two holes, about ten miutes work. Which is more than I can say for the actual strip out of the fan box cry
I did mine in about four hours in and out but it is a bks of a job.

Yeah, I just want the quickest cheapest way to just get it going again. So if the wiring diagram shows a straight through connection then it can't be the resistor pack. frown

Tony, Is it the Mk 4 or 5 fan unit. Do you have anymore details?

Thanks

It may be worth asking chris, on here as coolchris, I know he bought one and had it fitted so I'm sure he knows which one it is?

Nice one. I know Chris. I'll give him a bell.
