Is this a good idea?

I've been fortunate enough to be in a financial position to go for my full licence this summer which I wasn't expecting! Basically I passed my CBT a year ago and haven't been on a bike since. The school I would like to go to offering packages that make the overall daily rate for a DAS roughly £100 (that's with test fees etc) which I think is a good deal. But I have found a local company that will rent out a 125 to learners for a weekend for £70. When I did my CBT my roadcraft was good (been driving cars for a good while) and I felt I just needed a bit more bike time to become a bit more control confident. Hence my thinking is that the 3 days hire might knock of a day of tuition that would not really teach me anything as I imagine it would mainly be refreshing me back to CBT standard and save me 30 quid while probably being quite good fun! But am I just likely to pick up bad habits?

Also one aspect I'm looking in to with possible schools is if they have the space for a mock mod 1 test, my choice mentioned above doesn't have this but is it really important?

It depends how confident you are on the bike. It is likely they would put you on a 125 for either a day or half a day anyway to assess when they will transition you to a bigger bike. It all depends on their assessment of your ability so is difficult to say. £100 per day for the DAS including tests and equipment hire is a very good rate anyway. I wouldn't be too concerned about doing a full mock test. They should do all the parts in training anyway. One good thing to do if you can, is to go and see the mod 1 test centre and watch a few people do their tests. It will take away alot of the mystery about it and calm your nerves. It's a peice of p$ss anyway and most people only fail because of nerves - which is understandable. I was stting a brick when I did mine. Passed though.
