My Giants going back for its first (free) service soon. In the past I've never bothered with this. But I thought as it was free, and the bike wasn't cheap, I'm taking them up on it. Aside from adjusting the gear indexing as the cables have bedded in and stretched a bit. What else should they do/I notice?

I reckon if I walk in with a list of faults they'll start doing "addtional" work and charging accordingly. They are all minor faults I can fix myself, but if they are offering...

They should do everything on your list. Headset and bottom brracket torque checks, brake and gear adjusts for cable stretch, spoke tension checks.

They may do none, just shake it with both hands and tell you it's fine.

Give them a check list with bullet points to tick off.

Well I took it back and didn't say anything to them. They adjusted the indexing and the wheel hubs and brakes. They also appear to have lubed everything. (and left small GT85 spillage marks of course on a bike that went in to them spotless...) Oh, and they pumped the tyres up as the left the valve caps off. Which I noticed as I was putting the bike in the car and had to go and retrieve from them.

Main issue was that despite booking it in and being advised to leave it with them. I was told on the day under no un certain terms that I would not be allowed to leave the bike with them and that I MUST wait for it to be done. Not ideal given I'd already pre-planned a couple things!

As some will have seen Giant Twickenham sold me the bike and I WAS pleased with the service. But this just left a lasting impression. They were THIS close to getting it right too....
