Hi all
I was looking through my Photobucket photos, sorting them out. I came across this little beauty that I took many years ago at Shelsley walsh Hill climb. I thought I would share the photos here as its got to be a pretty rare bit of kit if its a real one.
I remember it going up the hill, it certainly was impressive.

Here are the pics:

The old Group S Astra with the FTD supercharged Manta engine in smile

Remember seeing that on the Audi Sport Rally in the mid 80s

Yup, 4WD and is owned by Vauxhalls Heritage Centre. Still gets wheeled out for certain events.

Shame it was too late for full on group B action and was built for the evolution Group S series which was subsiquently cancelled as far as i'm aware. I think if my memory serves me right there were about 5 different versions of the Astra 4wd car of varying types of construction used in events such as the Dakar and UK Rallycross.

I certainly remember as a kid watching the Rallycross at Brands and there was a Mk2 Astra running in amongst the RS200's and 6R4's. Good days cloud9

Wasn't it John Welch who had the Rallycross one? 650bhp or similar? Saw him at Croft a few years ago.

Love that!

How much power would it be producing now?

In the mid 80s the Audi Sport rally ( before it became the Bulldog rally ) finished up in the Shrewsbury Shirehall car park. I remember seeing the car start out but I don't think it finished the event. Big crowd around it at the service halt ( think it was the cattle market down in Dolgellau??? ).

Manta 400 engine with a supercharger on - was supposed to take over from the Manta but as said Group S got cannned

That Astra was a superb tool. Here is a spectacular video of it showing an RS200 a clean pair of heels.
