Granny gets 5 Years for 'War Trophy'.
Discussion
If the news story is as read then it certainly seems a bit harsh, however the fact it was kept under her mattress makes me think all is not as it seems.
Even then 5 years for something that could not do any harm, there was no ammunition, and might have been used only as a deterrent should the need arise does seem a little over the top.

There must be more to this for her to get 5 years?
A well known Belfast 'character' (house burglar, drug dealer, thug, gunman, terrorist, blackmailer, thief, gambling addict, extortionist, intimidator...) was caught in Belfast with a automatic pistol gun and 30 rounds in his car and only got 6 years, reduced to 2 on appeal! http://www.nuzhound.com/articles/irish_news/arts20...

5 year minimum sentence under Scots law. I doubt she'll serve half of it.A well known Belfast 'character' (house burglar, drug dealer, thug, gunman, terrorist, blackmailer, thief, gambling addict, extortionist, intimidator...) was caught in Belfast with a automatic pistol gun and 30 rounds in his car and only got 6 years, reduced to 2 on appeal! http://www.nuzhound.com/articles/irish_news/arts20...

Why were the Police looking under her mattress for her son?
Hiding in the base of a divan bed is all the rage amongst the criminal classes doncha know? Or they may have been searching for drugs.Any road, something tells me that this woman is not a "pillar of the community" and the sentence may reflect either that, or the suspicion that she might be taking the rap for her pikey son.
