information needed on 3.0 v6 smokers

I am currently looking around to get into a 4 yr old E 320/280 CDI. The other choice is the 525/530 D.

From what I understand, it seems that both the E class and the 5Series use 3.0 engines/gearbox packages and are same in both variants of the particular models with only the ECU maps being different between the 280/320cdi and the 525/530d. Is this correct?

If it is correct, are there any recommendations in terms of remaps I can use so that I could technically get the cheaper variant E280cdi/525D and remap to what the more expensive E320cdi/530d would attain on a remap???? I hear 300bhp and 350ftlb is the average target.

To be honest you would be best off just buying the e320/530d because the prices between them and the e280/525d aren't that far apart and the ECU remap will push your insurance premium right up making it slightly more expensive than just buying the fast one in the first place.
