Helo mate. hope you can help.
Previous thread about fuel systems, you said you put a pre filter between the swirl pot and the pump.
Just got a new swirl from RT but he does not do filters.
Tried simonBBC and he cant help.
Could you tell me where you got yours.
TIA
Gavin

Yep as above, i use the bullet filter with the metal filter element on mine (the paper filter that is comes with is too restrictive).

Got my Bullet filter from these guys:

Very helpful, just under £60. I think it may have been TVRLeigh who suggested them.

Yes it was, and yes you need to ask them to put the metal filter on them, which he will supply and fit.

Thanks guys.
Fastroad get em from Glencoe.....who just happen to be in Staines (not far from me at all) and am off to get one to follow the swirl pot tomorrow.
N.B. the chap from fast road insisted i need a "redtop" pump (pre the swirl pot) which confused me.
Speaking to Glencoe they said not.
My car never had one on when i bought it, and apart from the racers and perhaps "bigboyz" i never heard of anyone fitting one.
One question tho. do you route the breather tube ( on the swirl pot, approx 5-6mm) back into the tank, and if so, is there a facility already in place on the cars, or do you need to drill a hole ???
Thanks again for your help.....i'm getting there smile

Due to the position of the swirl pot on the Wedges there's enough gravity to feed the pump, but if the swirl pot is located higher on than the tank, then you need a low pressure pump to supply the swirl pot.

On my racer I only have 1 tank and a high volume swirl pot where the other tank is, so I need to run a red-top with this system.

One useful thing about the redtops is that make a lot of noise when running dry, but I've still got 1ltr in the swil pot, handy with no fuel gauge.

You should already have a breather from the old swirl pot up to the top of the n/s tank. I would suggest replacing this (and any other orginal / old) fuel lines. It's far easier to connect the breather to the pot before installation, as access in situ is difficult. Don't make the same mistake as I did though: the original breather was secured with an ordinary hose clip, so when I fitted the new pipe, I used a new good quality hose clip. Only after a week or so did I realise that because the pipe is so small, it wasn't being sealed by the clip properly, and was leaking. Had to replace it with a better type like this:

which was not easy.

Thanks seven.(is it ok to use the spelling rather than the digit??) I will post a picture of my old swirl pot if i can.
It had the breather tube cut to 4inches and had a bolt screwed in to blank it off !!!!

Now please go easy here(i'm gonna risk humiliation by asking).....after 30 odd years of driving i do't know which is the nearside !!! Drivers ??
I await your ribbing!
Thanks again

Nearside as in near the kerb, therefore the left or passenger side as you're sitting in the car. Offside is off the Kerb ergo Driver's side. biggrin

Very odd. Do you have the breather inlet (a short brazed stub) at the top of the tank though? - as V8G says, passenger side.

7. or Seven if you prefer

fitted it all (new swirlpot, bullet pre-filter and all hoses) but cannot locate said overflow connection on tank (either one). Looks like i will have to make my own one !!! (God knows how)
Feck it, is nothing consistent on the bloody cars ?
Starting to get my goat now.
Fitted new sidelight/indicator units including thru-crimped connectors and it now fouls the headlght actions. GRRRR

On the racer I've not got a return to the tank, so my return goes back to the swirl pot.
Ideally though you want it going back to the tank as then keep the fuel temperature down.

Calmed down and looked again....and found it.
Oddest place. Nearside tank ok, but in the wheel well area !!!
Strange that it is on the opposite side of the car to the pump and filters.
Mind you. its not the same size as the breather on the new swirlpot.
Reducer required !!!

I'll try to post a pic of mine, because I think you may be looking at the overflow outlet from the filler neck if it's down low. The breather is up at the top of the tank.

This is the return from the fuel rail in the engine bay. Located in n/s tank outer end, which I think is the one you refer to as the wheel well.

This is again the n/s tank, inner end looking upwards from underneath. The smaller pipe is the swirl pot breather, the larger is one of the connections to the other tank.

The first picture looks like the one i found although it is right at the top of the tank and had nothing attached to it so i used it for the breather/overflow from the swirlpot.
Second picture i recognise as the connections between tanks. The smaller one has a pipe attached already which runs to the front of the car so must be the return from the fuel rail you mentioned.
As first one wasn't being used (plugged off) i figure it wont do any harm as they both end up in the same place.
Wadya think ??

I think that's fine - both the breather and the return line are going to the top of the tank.
