classic insurance, no other car?
Discussion
Hi all
I recently aked some advice for a classic barge for me to drive.
Now I have kind of selected a car I am getting insurance quotes (trying to) but am having trouble. I have quoted from flux and they were fine but heritage wont quote unless I have another car insured in my name, I am a named driver on another car but don't own anothr car right now.
Anyone got any suggestions for companies this wont be a problem for?

If you do come back to Flux make sure you say that you're a Pistonheads member if you haven't already because that can give you a discount too.
It's looking as though I will. Nobody wants to give a full time carer insurance. So let me get this straight, I cannot work as I am expected to look after my mother until she dies all for less than jobseekers allowance. As a result I am not to be insured on a decent classic policy. As far as I am concerned, if I am using another vehicle for most of my driving and I am not commutng to a place of work I represent pretty much the same risk as someone who has a classic as their second car.
yes it is possible, my last barge was insured as such.
I can't recall the broker I used but he was recommended to me by lowdrag iirc on a thread I must have started oct/nov. 09 if you want to dig for it.
policy is via lancaster. classic policy, only car, limited mileage policy (my choice, could have had a higher/ultd mileage).
cost was about 60% less than a non classic policy.

I doubt this helps, but I think you will find that you require another vehicle, not car. I have 2 motorbikes that my classic car insurance are happy to include. I recently aked some advice for a classic barge for me to drive.

Also I though many of them asked if you had 'use of another vehicle' rather than ownership/insurance in your name?

Looks like flux win this round!

As above, try Lancaster. Me mum got quoted about £100 cheaper than anyone else on her Escort, even as her only car and with 7000 miles a year allowance I can't recall the broker I used but he was recommended to me by lowdrag iirc on a thread I must have started oct/nov. 09 if you want to dig for it.

if you can wait until monday, i'll dig out the phone no. of the broker i used. i have looked back through my post history and can't see the thread. i'll look again once the search function is fixed.
his price was much cheaper than going through lancaster directly. it was also half what flux were after.
what is the price you have been quoted? what ncb do you have? age? just trying to work out why the price you have been quoted is so high.

I have three years ncb to use, I have an ms90 (3points for not IDing the driver) and a £500 claim against me from last year. They seem to think that this is the reason they quotes are coming up so high. My points are three years old now so wont be there for much longer.his price was much cheaper than going through lancaster directly. it was also half what flux were after.

Everyone else seems to want over £1000
Flux want £340!

what car? if that's fully comp and no mileage limit, seems like a good deal to me. my bmw 528i was 300 a year - 28yr old, no garage, 8000miles, 3yrs ncb. you only get the silly cheap classic policies if its your 2nd car.
Oh yeah I knew I forgot something, well it's a merc 500 SEC!Well it was going to be until I was outbid by £20. Still I set my max and stuck by it. I might get a second chance offer.

I'm amazed it's only £340 with that history - I'd take their arm off at the shoulder...Everyone else seems to want over £1000

is the ms90 given if you fail to identify the driver on a NIP? if so it may cause doubts over trustworthiness, which is what drives insurance.
i think you're getting a good price as it stands, though save money where you can, you'll need it for petrol with the sec!
It's also what you get when the nip get's lost in the post, a summons!i think you're getting a good price as it stands, though save money where you can, you'll need it for petrol with the sec!
I have to admit, flux's price is pretty strong!
