Going to change my cambelt soon.Looking up suppliers eliseparts do a Piper longlife one that they say is good for 30,00k miles. Anyone fitted one to their S1, as it seems a no brainer to fork out an extra tenner and forget it for 30,000 rather than replace the OE one every 4 years. I suspect it will need replaceing before I do 30k but I'll find out time rather than miles.

oem one is 40k miles or 4 years. Not sure in what way the piper one is deemed to be longlife as I doubt it will last longer timewise.

And I think (think) Lotus had it at a recommended 5 year period when they first made the car. Not sure why it was dropped to 4....think it was just to make the official services fall into line easier?

(So if the above is true, why not us OE and change it every 5? )

Just put a standard one on there. Piper one is made by a belt manufacturer and just rebranded. My one on my Westfield focus engine was a gates one badly scrubbed out........

as said, 4 years is a sensible limit.

it's not really a mileage related issue with them (within reason), it's more a case of age IMHO
