hi

Got the do it up book off mx5parts yesterday an it says that the two towing eyes at the front are "unsuitable for towing and may as well be removed" so i removed them, but where should the car be towed from? the rear towing hook or is there somewhere on the front i'm missing?

also drilled my airbox an dropped a k&n panel filter into it an does sound amazing wink

They aren't suitable for towing long distances but are fine for pulling your car out of a hedge! If there is nothing else to use they'll use whatever they can i.e. part of the engine, steering rack, whatever they can reach.
I removed one but left the other on.

Took mine off the other night as they were ugly and rusty, will eventually fit a tow eye but not high on my list of priorities

they are pretty strong as are the bits they mount into - i think however you just want to use them both together, they should be fine for towing if you use just the one.

aftermarket ones attach to the same place anyway and won't be significantly stronger, if at all. i have an aftermarket on mine and whilst i wouldn't want to pull it out of a ditch with broken front wheels or anything, i think on the road it should be fine.

I liked them and painted them yellow to look like faux racing tow eyes:

I've decided to paint my towing eyes, or at the very least clean all the rust off them.

Any idea how to remove them?

There is nothing "faux" about them - they are more capable than the "racing" replacements like Carbing. They are a lot heavier though.

I was surprised by just how heavy they are! All four together weigh a fair few kilos
