any ideas for where to go for a stag do?

Ideally away from Manchester (as most people live here)
1 night away, back home next day

Liked idea of London (boat trip down thames with 200 clubbers -with option of club/pubs after) - however 3 hours on a train is too long there & back. Will be expensive & most of them will not be into raving anymore!

Any suggestions? Chester? (prefer not races)

Liverpool or Leeds are two fantastic nights out and pretty close by. Why not one of those?

not chester. I used to live there and if a good night out was needed we'd get the train to manc or a taxi to liverpool.

if 3hrs is too far for a stag I'd say stay in manc. if your heart's not in it. otherwise leeds/liverpool or - leftfield choice - camping in anglesey with maybe a bit of powerboating.

Last time I got Virgin Express into London from Manchester it took just over 2hrs and was only £28 off-peak.

I second Newcastle.

Or for something different, hire a 14-foot canal boat and a bunch of mates, and get pissed on the canal network smile

Doing leeds this weekend for a mates stag.

Was going clay shooting in kelbrook, then into leeds karting, then freshen up, beer, curry, beer , club , beer , pool etc ...

the clay shooting has been dropped - some folks not got the cash, but sounds a great weekend.

SImes.

Most of that sounds good apart from the 14 ft bit. A normal boat is 7 ft wide. That's quite short.

It would be shorter than this:

Did a pub crawl/stag do the other day and we were told to be at one place at 5pm for a surprise. Turns out it was a breakdancing lesson for us all. Absolutely hilarious from start to finish. A group of slightly unfit 30-something blokes with a few pints on board trying to breakdance is a very funny thing indeed!

Thanks for the replies

London - too long on the train (too may people will be wasted by the time get there!)
Riga - liked the idea of that, but looked at flights £400 return each!
Amsterdam - been too many times already (along with benidorm/ibiza/tenerife/berlin for other stag do's)

Plus really need the whole weekend to go abroad

Leeds - a possibility
Liverpool - probably not (15 mancunians)
Chester - is an option
Newcastle - is the favourite up to now...any ideas (there one night) ??

i'd love to invite my mates on my stag only for the response to be 'yeah, love t, but we can only be bothered travelling an hour max.'. do you not like him or something? wink

Newcastle is only 2hrs in the car though! How many times does the bleeding' train stop?!

Newcastle is a good night out - I'm lucky in that my mate has lived up there for ages and knows all the best places to go! But to be honest if you just pile into the middle of Newcastle you can't go wrong.

i would suggest a trip to the outdoor Karting circuit at Sunderland if you can fit it in. It's a fantastic circuit - I've been twice, and the KArts are the 2 pedal on one side lpg babies - pretty fast and interesting circuit, especially if it rains! biggrin

We went abseiling and caving in the Peak District for a mate's stag do before restaurant and pub/club afterwards. Rented a house for us all for the weekend.
