I've got a stainless steel back plate to a gas hob. I've tried to clean it with stainless steel cleaner but it doesn't remove most of the stains. Anyone got any tips on how to clean it properly?

What colour are the stains? Whitish stuff can be got rid of by scrubbing, or regular household cleaners etc, more colourful stuff like greens, browns and oranges are usually from chemical attacks, and you might need to sand through them with fine paper

Which bit of 'stainless' did they fail to grasp when they called this kind of steel stainless? I suppose they mean it doesn't rust?

Tried Autosol but still leaves alot of the stains there. It's covered in very small flecks which won't budge. I don't really want to use an abrasive since it will leave the surface unevenly polished. Defintely looks like some kind of chemical staining from cooking. Bloody useless idea having it in the first place since I was under the impression it was easy to clean (which the stainless range cooker is), so maybe bad quality for the back plate (although comes from the same company).

I use Bar Keepers Friend for our stainless steel sink; it's very effective at removing stains.

Ajax powder, warm water, dish cloth and just rub it in and wipe it clean with another damp dish cloth.

stainless steel cleaner!

buy it at your local DIY shop. wipe as normal then use a small dab on a lint free cloth to polish it up with no residue or streaks. I use it on my range cooker. bar keepers friend is one brand name as mentioned.

Baby oil, or WD40 as has already been suggested. Use a damp microfibre cloth after.
