Some chap in work just told me that you can purchase a blue-ray player that connects to the internet wirelessly so that you can watch BBC iplayer, 4 OD etc in HD. A quick google didn't find much to corroborate. Is he right, which players do this and how much are they?

Hold on, I've found it. LG BD570. Witchcraft!

Can you get all the free stuff like 4OD? iplayer? itv etc and can you get them in HD?

I wasn't aware that any of the terrestrial broadcasters did proper HD i.e 720p 50HZ etc. Happy to be proven wrong, last time I used iPlayer was a while ago and there was no high quality option there, and I could definitely see it was of a lower quality than 720p torrents of BBCHD shows I've seen.

Can never get OD4 to work via the PS3 gets to the home page but will not search for the programs.

My Samsung blue ray player does the same, as does the led tv.
Only issue i have is that both seem to lose the connection to the wifi rather easily even though they report a strong signal, and are then a bugger to reconnect.

Chanel 4 On-Demand or 'OD4'

My Samsung hooks up to the internet but only to You Tube.

I don't stream that much as I watch mainly HD content from a ext. HD.

Trying to stream Hi Def is a pain for me because of slow buffering.

It works, obviously, but try and ffw or rwd and you'll see what I mean.PITA.

Both C4 and ITV use their own software (ITV silverlight?) so you won't be able to play them.

Apologies if I misled anyone...

Does that mean you can access any media content, anywhere on the net, via your blu-ray player?

OK haha.

With a Sony Playstation you can play DVD and Blu-Ray discs.

If you have an external hard drive you can fill it with downloaded movies

from your pc,plug into your PS3 and play on your flatscreen via HDMI.

If you have a router you can play anything on your tv from your pc via the PS3.(streaming)

PS3 will also connect to the net and has a hard drive of its own,so you can copy/download all types of files.

Oh...and you can also play games on it!

Thank for the reply. Very interesting. I did have a PS2 once but sold it as I never played any games on it. Well, Tiger Woods was quite good, I reckon the 2011 version will be bloody brilliant!
