Interactive Speed Cameras anyone?
Discussion
I have now seen more of these electronic interactive speed limit signs, that flash up a "Slow Down" message if you're going too fast, and I feel that they are much more effective than a Scamera on it's own. As we all seem to agree, too many Scameras are located for revenue only, and some are just plain sneaky in their location. I would find them more acceptable if there was an interactive speed limit board erected, say, 200m before a Scamera. In other words, if you still get flashed, you deserve it.
The Scamera partnerships have made enough money now to pay for this, and it would be in the interest of road safety, so they could hardly argue against it. It would just mean that they get to fleece less drivers, but I for one would not shed any tears over that!
Any opinions?

nice idea but about as likely to happen as a cat with one leg being able to bury its turds on a frozen pond.
the whole scamera thing is down to them getting your money, end of....so they are hardly going to put a sign up saying "your doing 42" when they could just get a yellow box to flash you and collect their loot.
i honestly think that all cameras should have masks, most other highway robbers did!

I agree with them in pricnciple. you are highlighted to a danger area.
But surely the "skills" learned to get a licence would teach you to be aware of the hazards, the current road furniture (signs) already tell you of the speed limits, so technically there is no need.
Id like to see the experiment of the removal of ALL signs, and let people rely on skill not remote controlled driving by numbers.
also, new one on my local road is a joke
"slow down" (there is a hidden right turn on a a brow, on a a bend)
yes its bad, yes slow down, but to flash ME; when im taking the turn anyway, already planning to stop within the view available?? stupid and over sensitive settings.

I read this post at work. Excellent first post and amusing followups!
Couldn't reply at work, but what a good idea - if the SCP's are GENUINE about not wanting to make money, and only care about safety..... surely the flashing signs MUST be placed BEFORE the camera at ALL TIMES.
Anything else only proves the lie.

Aparently in Spain there are vilages that have a speed sensor on the way in at the limit change and if you where speeding you are stopped by a set of trafic lights for a stop go penalty so making the speeding thing a waste if effort if you jump it traffic lights you get a ticket and a speeding ticket
More like road safety than cash for speed.
