Fuji S2500HD download problem.
Discussion
Hi to you all.
We have recently bought a S2500HD camera and it refuses to download to the PC - it gives a 'camera already in use' error and doesn't seem to recognise that the card exists - even though the camera itself appears as an icon and drive on the Windows directory display.
We've also tried downloading the software and this does not even recognise the camera!
Has anyone had a similar experience and managed to find a way around it?
I would be most grateful far any ideas as we have several lovely photos 'trapped' in the camera!!!
Thanks in anticipaion

Starting from the basics ....
Have you checked compatibility with the operating system?

The manual seems to provide explicit instructions of the type the manufacturers always seem to provide.
I always find it quicker and easier to remove the memory card and use a card reader (many computers, especially notebooks, come with a built in reader that will cope with common memory cards) rather than muck around trying to use the camera as a connected device. If you have any files in the internal memory you may need to transfer them to the card to gain access to them for transfer if the camera connection decides never to play ball.

Hi there.
Thanks for your replies.
We've checked the compatibility and it matches on all counts (we have XP with SP3) and we've also tied removing the card and plugging it into the card reader on the PC. However, the PC is about 3 yeas old and the card reader is OK for SD cards, but I'm not sure if this means it will read SDHD cards as supplied with the camera? The trouble is that, now we've installed the new software, we now can't download our old Fuji camera either - grrr!!!

I have a nearly 3 years old HP notebook that has a card reader that accepts SDHC cards but my older reader does not. My Sandisk SDHC cards came with an adapter.
I'm surprised that Fuji systems don't seem to have backwards compatibility. That seems very odd especially if a new install insists on removing the old version.
There are a number of free applications that will read directly from a card and allowing file movement and editing of anything they can read but is sounded like the card, in camera, was not accessible either. Most odd.
If you take the card out can you see anything in the camera's internal memory?
Is the card a new card or one you had previously used in the old camera? (I assume new - but then I also know that assuming anything can be the wrong thing to so!)

An SDHC card reader is only a couple of quid if the pc won't read above 2gb cards

My clever missus has just found a similar item but by Fuji themselves for £4 on Amazon so she has bought this. Apparently some SD card readers will not read HC cards due to the way the card is formatted. The card came with the camera so was possibly formatted especially for it. Hopefully this should work otherwise it's plan B (bin!!!).
