Morning Gang,

Porsche wanted £148 for an oil change in my motor, needs to be Mobil 1 0W/40.

There's been some discussion on Porsche forum about the best price and where to get it from. Went to Cost Co last night and they had Mobil 1 0W/40 (Turbo Diesel) for about £24 for 5 litres. I did not buy it as it said Turbo Diesel on the box also because I knew that OPC would get funny about it.

Can some one confirm if the Turbo Diesel version the same as the ordinary one? I am guessing 0W/40 is 0W/40 ?

Cheers

Sunil

Wrong Forum chap, but, normal Mobil 1 0/40 is sold at Costco near me, I would check again to make sure they don't at yours.

As for the TD version, I have no idea if it's different. I wouldn't have thought so, probably just a marketing gimmick.

Oil for diesel engines is not the same as oil for petrol engines, though they may have the same viscosity ratings.

Different engine types need different detergents, heat ranges etc. You need to check the FULL spec, not just the viscosity. (look for SAE, API, ACEA etc. and make sure they match - more info. here : http://www.opieoils.co.uk/technicalinfo.aspx ).

Costco sell the proper petrol 0/40 Mobil 1, too it goes in my car too. Its got a sort of gold coloured label.

However they sell it in 4 litre containers.

Normal retail containers are 5 litres.

You need to work out how many litres you need, I'd imagine a modern 911 is quite a few (6+?)

I've ended up buying it from Opie now, (they have free shipping this weekend too) there prices are superb, and they usually do a deal on a bit bottle plus a litre bottle for top ups.

You are probably going to laugh but believe it or not.....KwikFit

They only use Mobil oils and will order in any grade that they don't have.

I had my TVR filled by them for £20 on a special deal using 6-7 individual bottles of Mobil 1 5w40 fully synthetic with a new oil filter. I think they normally charge £40-50 which is still good value and considerably less than you stated.

However I would add a disclaimer - my local kwik fit are excellent and the manager was an ex-tvr mechanic who knew what he was doing. Only consider if you have confidence in your local outfit, otherwise costco route is probably the best option

I got a Mobil 1 oil change and filter change in Kwik Fit for less than what it would have cost me to buy the oil alone on a retail basis.

They also give you free topups if required upon production of your oil change receipt.

However you'll be told you need new tyres/brakes/exhaust/suspension while you are there....
