According to two reports — one at Boxcrack.net, a kind of citizen journalism site run by Privacy International, and another at Pro Pakistani, a Pakistani Telecom and IT news site that lifted the news from BBC Urdu — the Deputy Attorney General has indeed lodged an FIR against Zuckerberg, fellow co-founders Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes, and "Andy", the German woman who initiated the Draw Muhammad contest under a pseudonym.
According to Pro Paskistani, petitioner Muhammad Azhar Sidiqque said he's waiting for the police to contact Interpol about making arrangements for the arrest of Facebook's owners and "Andy". The site also says that the Deputy Attorney General told the High Court that Pakistan’s United Nations representative has asked to escalate the issue in the UN General Assembly.

That's a bit harsh.

How permanent would the ban be from PH if I started an MS Paint competition of "draw Mohammed"?

OTOH, Ribena, as you seem so concerned about it why not start a website with your name and work address on it where people can upload their images? Let's see what your backbone is like.

Probably very, although it makes no logical sense that a simple drawing of a possibly made up deity is offensive.
Indeed, though there is no logical sense in believing that there is a God in the way mainstream religions do either to my mind.So I guess what I am trying to say is that logic and religion tend not to be bedfellows.

Oh I'd draw a special picture for that...
I wonder how long he'd last. Assuming he's not all hot air...Mr Will said:

Just because a certain group of people tell you you shouldn't draw a bloody picture, surely we should point out that we have the right to do whatever the hell we want to?
NOT drawing the picture would, ironically, be the wrong thing to do. It's not 'tolerance', it's having your actions changed by someone else's belief and crazy-talk. Ironically, acquiescing to the demand would send the wrong message.

I am a great believer in free speech, and you'll notice I have allowed the links to other sites to remain on the thread, but offensive images are not allowed on PH, be they drawings of Mohammed, a photograph of a man in lingerie shagging a range rover, or anything else which is likely to be offensive to a large number of people.

Serious question Mr Will: why kowtow to crazy religious freakery? Would you ban people for drawing pictures of Buddha or Christ?

You're right of course, but Haymarket would bear the brunt of any backlash and I imagine they simply can't be arsed.Just because a certain group of people tell you you shouldn't draw a bloody picture, surely we should point out that we have the right to do whatever the hell we want to?

Why not use the site Ribena's writing as we speak?

Sad thing is I'm actually sitting here wondering if I should really try and draw a smiley of said deity or not...
