I remember seeing here a while ago a topic on test drives. I think it was the new Megan giving out 2-3 day test drives. I was wondering if these still exist. I'm asking because I’d love to drive something that isn't my own car for a while. I'm about to turn 18 and I’ve only driven a handful of different cars. I'm not interested in buying them; I’ll make that clear now. But if I could get a test drive on a new car for a day or that'd be awesome.

So anyone know of any on offer? And are there any restrictions like mileage or age due to the fact I’m a young driver.

Thanks

I wouldn't want to waste any staffs time. I'm thinking internet based booking. I know last time people where also taking the test drives with no intention at all to buy.

You're 18, nowhere will let you, even if they did exist.

People haven't responded badly to to the suggestion in the past, why would they begin to now?

Mate, go to a field with your mates, drive their cars!!! Dont complain to me if you crash them.

I dont see the point, its wasteful, plus driving a new bog standard 1.4 megane for a couple days isnt particularly thrilling. (I know from experience as my mum had one for the 3day period. Ill have you know she was a serious potential customer, until we realised the car was horrible to drive)

But cars don't prepare, clean, fuel, book themselves. You will be wasting peoples time, it's as simple as that.

Fair play. No harm in asking. I only questioned it, if it was going to be trouble/newsense for the dealership i wouldn't bother.

What do you do for a living? How would you feel about someone completely wasting your time when you are trying to provide for your family? When you grow up a bit in a few years and you are in this situation you will understand.

I work in sales, albeit not in the car industry but hate having my time wasted by people who have no intention of buying anything. A good sales person will spot your game a mile off and tell you where to go.

First off:

1. Internet booking or not, sales staff will still be involved as you will be seen as a warm lead, you've test driven the vehicle so presumably have an interest in buying (this will be the dealers mindset)
2. At just turned 18 you'll have as much chance of getting a 24 hour test drive as I would of winning Miss World
3. Not only are you wasting dealers time but you are also taking a vehicle out of service that a genuine buyer could want to test drive.
4. A 24 hour test drive in a Megane is not going to get you a shag (I at least assume that's one of the hoped for outcomes)

I really can understand how a similar set of people can respond so differently to the same situation if it is worded slightly differently.

Someone puts a link on PH to Renault doing a 48hr test drive - majority of PH love it and book up.

Someone asks if anyone is doing long term test drives and is ripped apart...

confused

hehe

I'd just like to make clear, this wasn't my plan nor a thought that crossed my mind.

and last time it was 21+ year olds looking to have a laugh for a couple of days instead?

People in the other thread stated they had no intention of buying, yet didnt get the kind of reponse the OP has here.

To be honest, i expected replies like this. Simply because i stated my age. Ever since i joined here, i relised that if i mentioned that i was of a younger age i was spoken down too and expected to be an idiot. Moaning old fkers!

Nothing to do with your age. Everything to do with "I want to drive a nice car for a couple of days without paying for it".

Some people will take the view "If the company's offer it they can't complain when people take them up on it" which is a fair view to take I guess. Personally I take the view that if you've blatantly no intention of buying it's the wrong thing to do.
