Can I get an E39 530d sport for £5500?
Discussion
As the title says really... I've got a budget of £5500 max, and have always fancied a 530d sport... there are a few for sale for this price, but am I letting myself in for some big bills?
I know turbo's tend to go on these, if so at what mileage?
I do about 20k miles a year, mainly motorway but lets say 5k of those will be short journeys....
With this in mind, I'd like one with under 80k miles on...
I would also consider an E46 330d sport (saloon or coupe) but these don't seem to be plentiful in my price range....

Don't be afraid of miles on these as pretty much all of the common problems can come at relatively low miles and are easy and cheap to fix.
My experience is admittedly of a 525 not a 530 but they are pretty much the same,in January I bought a 2003 525d manual with 130k on it,as of today it's showing 162k and has cost me a set of pads £20 front £15 rear and a rebuilt turbo £425 from Turbo Technics plus £300 for labour filters and oil. It just eats up the motorway and is doing 47mpg, yet when you want some fun it has amazing steering and grip, although the dsc can be annoying even in the dry.
When I was looking there seemed to be a lot of dodgy historied 530's around that were baggy and worn smooth, god knows how many miles they must have done as mine doesn't show any wear and that 169,000 miler in the link looks pretty tidy. Don't be tempted to get an SE and upgrade later as Sport bits are rare and cost a fortune-hence mine is still on 16's and with standard bumpers and interior!
