Anyone running Toyo R1R's on a Mk1 at all?
Discussion
Yep I've been running them for a few months now. Previously had the Goodyear F1 GSD3's which I found to be very competent. Haven't had the chance to try them on track but as above I can understand people saying they are soft. After a good run on a hot day the rubber becomes very soft.
They are probably a little extreme for an MX5 but I thought I'd give'em a go when I got my new Team Dynamics 1.2's and the R888's are a little too much for my daily driver. Also you get a bit more tread depth (about 7mm) than the R888 but it's still probably only going to last me this season!
Not sure if they share the same stiff tyre wall construction as the R888's but found does have a slightly sharper turn in, and under some very heavy braking there was no lock up.
I say go for it. Also unsure if they are going to be banned for road use like all other semi slicks which I here is on the cards although these may get away with it.
Regards
Andy

I believe the compound and construction to be similar to that of the 888. To be fair, I don't want more grip during summer, I like the fact that the car can be slid around on the T1R's with little hassle, and the fact that they're only peanuts per corner so wear's not a consideration.
