1967 Mustang Restoration
Discussion
Hi guys,
I've not been on the forum for a little while, but just thought some of you would like to see some pics of the rebuild on my 67 Mustang fastback. The original plan was an engine rebuild and engine bay respray before a full colour change to its original colour of Vintage Burgundy. However, after the engine wouldnt come out of the engine bay without a big fight, it became apparant the shock towers had corroded at the base and sagged inwards. A few other issues were found so the whole front end has had to be cut off and replaced. So what was going to be a couple of months work has turned into this year being written off. The engine and front end panelwork is now finished, just the front suspension and engine to go back in. It will have its respray later in the year and a full interior retrim after that.
I had booked for the Le Mans Classic this year, maybe 2012 now! Anyway, here's a few pics of the progress so far -
Initial front end strip down

Engine finally out!

Engine stripped

Engine finished

On the jig

Front end cut off

Not sure what was nesting here!

New front end welded on

Engine Bay Sprayed Satin Black

Transmission Freshly Painted

Waiting for Suspension & Engine!

I'll keep posting pics as things progress.

Thanks for the comments guys. The front end issues were a major shock as I've owned her for 6 years and never expected to find such a huge problem! All the work should be finished by early next year, just seems a long way away at the moment. Here's a pic of how she looked before the strip down.
