ADAC breakdown cover
Discussion
Hi all
I have a thread in genral gassing but I have not had much of a response. Maybe the hardcore in "trackdays" can help?
I am looking to purchase european breakdown cover for our driving holiday this summer. We are travelling through a number of European countrys and having a weekend at the Nurburgring.
I have been reading that ADAC membership "plus" offers full european breakdown cover for 80euros (about £66).
I understand that it is the policy holder thats covered rather than a car.
In event of accident/ breakdown, ADAC will:
Transport your car home to the UK if it cant be fixed in 3 days locally.
Refund policy holder's recovery charges from the Nurburgring.
As for joining up, this thread recommends emailing ADAC to sort it out:

Am I missing anything regarding the ADAC cover as it sounds pretty good value for money?
Thanks for any info.

I use ADAC as my only breakdown cover - and there are limitations in the UK.
The service is provided through the AA - and towing is limited to 50kms approx(200€ towing allowance). I have checked & confirmed this with ADAC after needing a recovery from Leicester Forest East back to Derby. If it had been much further I would have had to pay the extra towing charge.
Cover in mainland europe is as has been stated in this thread - if the car is worth recovering, and can't be fixed within 3 days, they will get you back home.
You can join over the phone, but they don't seem to take payment by phone. They will send you a form that you can fax or mail back with your card info. One thing worth noting is that your membership doesn't lapse if you don't renew on time.

False I'm afraid, as with a breakdown 1000 miles from home I found out to my cost.I'm sure my recovery on 21 May this year was after my membership expired. I took it out originally in May 06 - & my card says valid from 05/08, so I figured the renewal date is 1 May. I sent this year's payment last week

If the car is of low value they 'may' refuse to get it back to the uk from sausageland, stuff like older track golfs/e30s etc the recovery costs to uk exceed the cars value. If covered its not normally an instant recovery, they come back on a large truck coming on a uk run, may get lucky & its sooner but can be 3+ wks.
My company brings a fair few cars back to blighty for exactly these reasons, as well as the spanked ones that folks dont want there insurers to know about & mysteriously appear were crashed in the Uk rather than at the 'ring where thay have no insurance of course!

I read something on here about ADAC only covering around 50 miles transport - but they had waived that in some PHers experience.
they didn't mention any restrictions when taking my track car from a circuit in Wales back to London... Just asked where to and did I need a hire car. Can't recommend them enough
