Great day, sunshine and light winds made for good speed.

06:30 start hampered the PB attempt somewhat as there were lots of stop starts through South London.

After that... Time to kick in some speed and bring up the average...

Seeing circa 42-44km/h on the straights and up to 73km/h on the downhill.

Ditchling was a SoB as usual but grit and sheer bl&@dy mindedness gets you up it.

Brighton I nearly came a cropper... Marshall shouts through megaphone to us to ignore the red light I did and a mini came out in front me whilst I'm at about 20 mph!!!! Literally just missed each other, millisecond less braking from him and I'd have been catapulted in to street furniture.

Final sprint down the finish straight me and one other guy... He just pulled away and nabbed it. PA guy announces we're 35th across the line.

Time? Looks to be about 2h50 but will need to get it off the watch when I get home as first 40 min registered as different exercise.

Stuff I can get for those in to stats:

68.4km @ 2h10m
max speed 73.4km/h
avg speed 31.9km/h
avg cadence 88rpm

now to go cheer the rest over the line smile

i.m still stuck at the bottom of ditchling beacon. Been here over an hour. 3 ambulances went past and air ambulance here. Not my day for traffic incidents.

Great event, really enjoyed it, London cycle traffic was frustrating but the route was great after then, nice and smooth, no real killer climbs. Just over 3 and a half hours for me which I am happy with, and a GPS-based 49.3mph top speed down the back of Ditchling, which was enormous fun!

It was great to meet everybody, and a huge thanks to all those involved in organising the entry and shirts, I certainly want to do it again!

3 hours 5 Minutes, really please with it especially with the hold up in London but it fully cleared out for the rest of the ride.

Even had enough left to cycle back to Gatwick

Time for me to make a surprise entry to this thread I suppose. After discovering on Friday that their was a space in the vans I decided to tag along!

4:20 was the end result, but I'm pretty pleased with that.

If anyone is interested, the log of my ride is on google maps here

Great to meet everyone. Enjoyed that enormously, right up to the point where valve came adrift from my rear tyre.

Long walk hoping to find someone with a track pump, lots of dicking about trying to figure out why the tyre had gone down if there wasn't a hole in it and then finally a tub change - no spare tape so the new back tyre was just held on by The Force.

After that I was just grumpy. All the walking with the flat made for a slow time, but I'm chuffed to have made it up the Beacon without stopping and riding more or less flat out all the way down to the finish from there was fantastic.

Wheels turning for about 3:40 - but elapsed time a good hour longer, Vmax 47.3 mph - didn't want to push my luck in the circumstances.

Top marks to the van men: time to mow the lawn now.

Any pics?

I have to admit I expected a big peleton of PHers. But seemingly you all went at your own speeds? Not really sticking to any group>

Nice day, thanks all. Really enjoyed the ride and it's certainly whetted my appetite for more (and soon)

Who was that bloke with the dodgy knee and the mountain bike by the way? hehe

You were all a great bunch of guys, let's do it again.

Van bullying on the way home was fun too!

Compared to some here, mine is rubbish-7 hours! BUT, I do have an excuse! I made a pact with my best mate not to leave him as he is a newbie cyclist& I got held up for 90 mins at the beacon!

Can someone confirm is the terribly sad rumor of one unlucky fellow having a heart attack are true? And another soul who apparently snapped their neck and departed from this mortal coil? RIP.
