Hi,

I am after a new car after selling the focus RS. In terms of cash I am looking to spend less than the RS was worth and bank the extra, so roughly about 6k is the budget give or take.

Been looking for well over a month but still not settled on what I want.

Ideas are now:

Mondeo ST TDCi - Lots of room, gadgets, good looks and nippy especially after remap.
Vauxhall Signum 1.9 150bhp - Lot of car for the money.
VW Passat - Mr Sensible kicking in? Less kit, less car for the money but arguably will hold value better and be more reliable.

There's not many mid size car's I have thought about, don't want another Focus as I've had two and if it was an Astra it'd have to be an 150bhp sri. Golf's command way too much money for what you get.

Any thoughts or notes to add?

Ah yes that is one I omitted from my list. Nice inside. Some nice sport ones around. 6k seems to pick up a 04 plate though with about 90k on the clock.

Three contenders IMO... I am a bit of a badge snob, but i think you get a bit more quality for your money. I never thought i'd say it, but out of the 3 below i'd probably go for the Lovlo thumbup

Get yourself a 530d.

Not too many around that haven't been to the moon and back for that money but look hard enough and before long you'll have a big, German, right wheel drive, 201bhp, diesel saloon on your drive.

If you are not a badge snob, Skoda Superb Tdi 130 should be on your list too.

Think I'm settled on a Honda Accord with all the good stuff I keep hearing and reading.

Looking around for an exec model for 6k, seem to be few and far between unfortunately. There was one on Autoquake I was really interested in but its reserved.

Will keep looking!

+1 on the Accord

Probably not the best in terms of Germanic-esque interior quality but kills the competition on everything else i.e. refinement, reliability, running costs. It really is surprisingly good at not being a diesel and whisper quiet when warm.

The touch screen sat-nav is particularly good IMHO and aeons better than the VAG unit I had last.

Good choice so hope you manage to find a decent model.

+1, that 4 now isnt it.

had one for 2 years, almost faultless, decent power, nice interior - a good all rounder
