I have a Rover V8 in a TVR thats giving some poor running issues. The car can somes times be hard to start, but mainly doesnt idle smooth and hunts. when pulling away, the engine seams to run on four or five cylinders. If i keep accelerating, it will coax the other cylinder to life.

i have checked the basics, plugs, leads, changed fuel filter, checked for adrift/split vacuum pipes ans cleaned the stepper motor.

two things i have found are, the Vacuum take off the the distrubuter was blocked with muck on the intake manifold (so i cleaned it out)and there is a exhaust blow on the right hand exhaust manifold on the seam. The blow is not too bad,but you can feel it blowing if your hand is in the area.

is the Rover V8 sensitive to a blow and thus cause my running problem?
Or, any other ideas?

What type of AFM do you have, flapper or hot-wire?

They do fail sometimes!
Also idle valve, valve clearances, head gasket, air cleaner + many more! frown

mmmm, looks like removing the exhaust manifold and having it welded, refittin and then getting a TVR dealer to take a look.

thanks for your help, if anyone has any other ideas they will all be welcome.

Have a read of this web site and see how many of your symptoms fit with a duff ECU.
I'm expecting quite a few. When I had mine done it was cheap and a very fast service..almost return post.
Difference was amazing.

Buy or borrow a lazer temp guage - cost about £25.

Have someone rev the car at 1200 revs constant and check each exhaust with
the lazer - the lowest one(s) should indicate where the problem is.

Sadly a symptom of cam wear is uneven running which gets worse over time.
