Oil - Where do you get yours?

One day I'll be able to offer advice rather than drain the collective knowledge here

Was speaking with Cerb-God Andy and he suggests using 5w or 10w/60 in the beast - easier said than done! Just been up to Halfrauds and they are completely out, can't even order it with them.

Where do you guys get yours? And out of interest, what do you use?

So 10/50. How different is that to the 10/60, thing is Andy knows my car inside out and don't want to bugger it up. But then it's only for top-ups.

OK so lots of different types but none match the 10/60 I was advised to use.

Does this make much of a difference when topping up?

Mark - I'm not an oil expert, I doubt if any of us are. Ask Andy why he speciically recomended a 10/60, 60 is unusual and is normally only reccomended for specific reasons.

I have always had Shell Helix fully Synthetic in mine as thats what was put in during its first service (in my ownership) but was thinking of changing to Magnatec as its more easily available.
Anybody any views on this? Whilst we're on the 'oil' subject!!!

Sorted. He suggested the 60 grade because that is what is already in there, but says 15/50 is fine and it's what he will be putting in there at the next service.

He is also now on the look out for a switch as an earlier poster said, there are currently more stocks of hen's teeth, will know more in a week or so.

60 imho is to think for the AJP.

The oil barely gets above 80°C even with the oil stats fitted. If you're going to go that thick I'd suggest running a stat and temp sensor and tape off half your oil cooler.

I still have a comfortable 30psi at idle after a good thrashing on 40 so I see little point in putting anything thicker in unless you want to waste power and fuel!

I'll go for a 40 or 50, see what my motor factor mate has on the shelf and which he is prepared to give the best mates rates on
