My PC used to be connected (through an optical cable) to a Pioneer VSX-808 RDS which in turn was connected to 2x B&W DM305 fronts, 2x B&W DM302 rears, a B&W CC3 center and a B&W ASW500 sub.

Since the PC's been banished to the office, I got another pair of DM302's and will be needing an amp that can receive input from the PC (optical) and transfer that to the speakers :-)

What amp would be suitable for this task?

A lot depends on your budget but new or second hand, the Marantz PM7200 is a fine amp and vfm. It's built like a tank, juicy, produces a weighty and warm sound and is able to drive speakers with ease.

I guess NAD would be another option at a similar price, maybe a bit more.

Edit: Come to think of it, I'm not sure the Marantz has an optical connection.
