Like an idiot a few weeks back I put Petrol in my diesel copmany car. Luckily I noticed before I started it up so didnt do any damage. Anyway today I get into work and the fleet manager presents me with a £230 bill for recovery and draining etc. My fault entirely but I guess im lucky I didnt start it up or I would of been working for nothing for a few months.

Nice Fleet Manager. Mistakes happen, can't you have a word with your line manager?CraigW said:

Unlucky. Not as bas a day as when I was stuck behind a tractor a few days ago and also sat behind 8 or 9 muppets who just wouldn't overtake. I eventually spotted what I thought was a big enough gap.......
did some pr1ck throw a can of redbull at you?

Is passing the cost over to you even legal? Don't businesses have insurance for this type of thing?Arese said:

I did have a word to see if there was any way out of it, apparently if you have an accident thats your fault you get one chance and they wont ask for a contribution but putting the wrong fuel in is different!!!!!. However it was my fault and had it been my car I would have to pay so put it down to experience and move on £230 lighter.

Fair enough that you accept it. If it was me, unless I had clearly read and signed the terms either as part of my contract (or an additional agreement), I would not be paying.Stevenj214 said:
Because it's... the company's car?! Would you expect to have to replace a work computer if you accidentally broke it?
If you "accidentally" (read "stupidly") plugged the work's PC into a 400 volt socket instead of a 240 volt one then, yes, I'd expect to have to pay for the repair.Stevenj214 said:
