So, today I got Nitrons fitted... After picking the car up, I was hoping for an opportunity to have a bit of a play on the M1 to test them out. Fat chance. A multitude of mundano-men caused the whole trip back to be at <30mph. So, I took a detour into Nottingham for a bite to eat before going home. Nottingham -> Derby on the way back means taking the A52, a lovely stretch of road at night (once you're past the speed cameras). I was just about to start throwing the car into the corners when... An Alpina B3S pulls up along side me (at speed) blatantly spoiling for a race. Now, who am I to shy away from such a challenge? I started to ease the "kill" pedal towards horizontal when I had a better idea; wait for a corner. So, half way round the next corner, I'm doing 130 (kph, of course ), and my car has more grip than a grippy thing coated in superglue. The bleedin' Alpina backs off. For the next 5 miles I proceed to hammer him on every straight and corner from there to Derby and beyond. Magic. Poor guy got so frustrated at his uber-tank, he did the max-hatch rocking forwards in his seat to make it go faster.

Aaaaanyway..... Bl**dy Nitrons.... Why the Hell couldn't TVR just fit them as standard and turn a rocket-on-wheels into a proper sports car to start with. Top work Joolz , as we were saying "they just, erm, kind of, er, you know, 'feel' sort of like 'better'"

It was indeed silver (aren't they all ). I wouldn't admit to bailing out at 130, tho...

Full monty indeed... £1200 inc VAT. The difference over speed bumps is unbelievable. Oh, and the cornering's not bad now, either!

Unfortuntaley... the car may have to go. Will have to do some serious thinking tonight. Whoever gets it will pick up one seriously sorted Cerb if that is the case. Although I'd probably keep the Nitrons to help push me back into rejoining the fold ASAP.

Sounds great JS.

Have you been able to shake her down on some roads you have used a lot and know well?

Be interested to know your improvment thoughts from those.

Did you get my mail?

Don't think it did. Was too busy swerving around the road failing to unsettle the car to pay too much attention.

It'll be great as long as I get to keep it! Haven't had a mail from you to Hotmail - will check the other account this evening; use the address Hotmail one if you want to get it straight to me.

I did about 50 miles in it last night over a load of roads I drive daily - A38, A52, etc. Summary of improvements:
o Steering is much more precise; it does exactly what you tell it to
o No body roll anymore (can't overstate this improvement)
o Suspension follows the road much closer, rather than "reacting" to it afterwards - great on imperfect roads, and a huge improvement on speed bumps
o Traction is slightly better at the rear, but need to wait for a really dry day to test this on corners properly
o Braking is much more positive - the nose doesn't plough into the ground half as much, and it's way more stable when you throw the anchor out

Nope. Only 2 days to go on that. Mainly to do with the stuff that's going on in the company at the moment, if you know what I mean.

James me ole drinking buddy... do me a favour and take it easy through those bends. I'd quite like to have your company on E.Hoon

I know it's fun at the time but a week ago I had some guy with a death wish come steaming up behind me at what I guess to be well over a ton, expecting to make the bend. He didn't. He also got his wish. Stupid waste of a life and seeing a burning wreck first hand and being able to do nothing about it has given me some serious pause for thought.

Glad to hear it handles like a dream now... any further thoughts on the Shelby replicas we were talking about?

Hey Al. Don't you worry about Eurohoon... 1. I'll have a car of some sort sorted for then! 2. I'm not going to race anyone that's got a "win at all costs" attitude, and I'm a wuss when it comes to high speed cornering since the Rover got written off.

Can imagine that shook you up a bit, though. Real waste of a life for a moment or two of bravado. I'll be back up in Hudds this weekend; sure we can arrange a mini-drive even if half of the region's cars are off the road!

I know. This is coming from Graham "2 Cerbs"? There isn't a chance in Hell I'll go more than a few months without one; think I may have to take a very short-term break, though.

Nice one JS. Good to see you again picking your car up from Joolz.

PS Your car would look spot on if you washed it

I'm protecting the paint from fading, OK! It'll be getting a full wash & wax when I'm back up in Hudds this weekend, don't you worry!
