I am planning on installing a keyless entry system on my 94 S4. The factory alarm is working correctly and I don't have any desire to install an additional alarm. My plan is to install a selinoid on the drivers side that is activated with the keyless entry. When it locks, it will automatically lock the passenger side like it does now with the key. However, the alarm activates by the key turn pressing a mico switch. I don't think just locking/unlocking the doors with the selinoid will arm/disarm the alarm. Has anyone had keyless entry installed on their S4 or similar with the factory alarm? Any advice?

I installed a remote entry and alarm system from AutoLoc at the same time so I can't help with the stock alarm question. The only advise I have on the install is "be patient"

John,

I'm sure it can be done somehow without a new alarm but my alarm guy and I could not figure out how to do it.

It was easier and a lot cheaper to just go with a new alarm with the keyless entry feature. I left the factory alarm alone and can still use it with the key if needed.

With a new alarm, no additional solenoid is needed on your car, there is already one in the door. Just tap into the correct wires and the keyless entry works great.

You will need to remove the binnacle and knee bolster of the dash to get to the wires. I've got pics if you need them.

Well, I finally got around to the keyless entry install. It was...interesting. The main concern was to install it and have it activate the factory alarm at the same time. It took several hours with a multimeter and looking through the electrical schematics, but I got it done. If anyone needs any info on where to tap in to the needed wires, shoot me an email.

A bit off this topic, but does anyone know where I can get a hookup diagram or manual for a Clifford Intelliguard 700-IQ alarm? (I have the owners manual.) I'm trying to clean up the horrible install some ape perpetrated on my car long before I purchased it. They seem to be out of business.

Cheers,

both issues..
Did you get the double lock to activate too? my factory alarm clearly only arms when the car is double locked. I assume there is a as switch in the driver door that activates the alarm and you could trigger this with the new keyless entry.... but how did you get the second solenoid to go?

I may have a clifford diagram at home, ill be there on thursday night.. remind me..

Get an alarm with a contact for door locks (Just about all alarms now have this option) and an actuator for the drivers door it will lock and unlock the passengers as it does now. You can also see if you can relocate a micro switch for the alarm into an actuator.

S4S has double lock feature, there is "standard lock",when you turn the key just a bit (you can open the lock from inside. this works from either door. There are solenoids in both doors. But it does not arm the alarm.
There is also Double Lock feature where you turn the Driver door key sideways. this arms the alarm and also activates a second solenoid in the passenger door. When double locked, neither door can be opened from the inside...
well it should be possible to use an aftermarker keyless entry or alarm and just triger the "standard locks" and also activate the factory alarm if you connect the wires a bit differently. It would be very hard to remote control double lock the car. What I do on the BMW (which has the same double lock system) is just single lock the car unless i am scared it is a dangerous area, or say I leave the car at an airport. Then i arm the alarm with single locks and then use the key and turn it manually to double lock it. I will probably go this rooute with the S4s when I get around to it

What I did was connect to the signals to both doors via the central locking module which is up front under the abs control box. So when activating the remote, it locks or unlocks the doors. It performs the same action as turning the key in the door the first click. The next part was a bit tricky. There are 2 micro switches on the drivers door lock. One, which is activaed first when you only turn the key enough to lock the doors (both door lock actuators are activated by turning the key the first click by moving the drivers door lock plunger which activates the pass door lock plunger as well). The first micro switch is only for the window up feature (not used on US cars). The second microswitch which is activated only when you turn the key all the way when you lock it activates the alarm and second "deadbolt" lock. So what I did was disconnect the wires from the microswitch and connect it to a relay. So, when using the key, it activates the relay that does the same job the microswitch did on its own. But, with the relay, I can have the keyless entry activate the relay as well. As I said, it took some time with a multimeter and the service manual to get this figured out, but it works great!
