My 6 month old RS has crap air conditioning, which barely alters the air temp in the current warm spell. Is this a Fordism, or is it likely to be down to poor QA and therfore re gassable or whatever during the cars first service in a weeks time?

Funny you should mention this, my Mk3 didn't feel as good as my Mk1 Mondeo, it's off to be regassed this Saturday so will let you know, I'd say you may have a low charge or fault though, it really should cool the cabin down. Hopefully mine will feel nice & chilled come Saturday afternoon, not much good if the Mk1 was better!!

Hi mate.
I have a new RS and must say the A/C is not the best.
Make sure you have it on recirc and fans on full.

Not too bad then.

Does having it on recirc make it cooler?

By having it on recirc your circulating & cooling the air just in the cabin rather than drawing in the hot air from outside. Therefore the a/c hasn't got to work as hard to keep the cabin cooler. HTH

Have seen many mk2 Focus with poor a/c as they havent been fully gassed at the factory rolleyes once done properly (not a cheap top up from Kwik Fit etc) it works very well & the versions with climate are even better thumbup

Avoid st fit, those tts told me my old car had a massive leak & wouldn't even accept the gas. The A/C specialist i went to put in Nitrogen and couldn't find it so they gassed it & added dye, I'm back there tomorrow where hopfully they will find the leak. st fit obviously lied as it worked for a few days & the specialist i took it to showed me the machine reported no leak detected either as it is so small. So much for the "it was just pissing the gas straight out m8"!

Just had mine done by my local mechanic.

Sucked out the old gas, did the UV check, then filled. Cool as a Polar bear's bits... smile

I'm having the 220 done tomorrow too, never been done and doesn't feel that cool to me. It's supposed to be roasting hot this weekend so a good test smile

You might also notice the power steering fluid is not topped up properly either. I got hit with a top up in the first service!

I know a couple of people that have had their's regassed with good results. Mine is pretty poor as well, so I may want to go down that route when I can be bothered to take it to the dealership.

Mine seems to be ok, but i'm sure it felt colder last year, so will get them to check it when it goes in for the first service in a couple of weeks.

Just an update, had my RS in for the 1st service today & had them check the air con, found it to be very low on gas (charge?). They emptied, re-charged, checked for leaks & no problems found.

Funnily the service manager did say, its the 3rd RS they have had to re-charge & came to the conclusion, as has been said by others, that the systems were not charged properly from the factory.

Luckily, this IS covered by the warranty & done free of charge.

So, even though my air-con felt cold & ok, i told them to check it & hey presto its now colder than a penguins penis!

My advice would be to get them to check it on the first service anyway! biggrin

I think my 220 was the same, it feels much colder than I ever remember now it has been done. Now just to fix the old Mk1.........

Yep, def much colder like last year! I remember the back of the steering wheel getting ice cold, this year just cold!
Also when the air con is on the system clicks every 10-15 seconds, as if its flicking on & off, hasn't been doing that all the time this year.
Clicking like a good'un now!! biggrin
