Well the half shafts are done, prop now off and stripped but I cannot locate the UJ's for it, the UJ's were well worn and marked K1 DF Spicer 05. Web search has so far met with little sucess so any guidance would be appreciated
Cheers

I'm sure the prop takes the same UJ's
The info is on here somewhere though as I changed mine on the racer when rebuilding it, and got the info from here, try using Adam's search using the sticky above

Thanks but for some reason I seem to have smaller UJ's on the prop, I believe they are the HS 166 not the HS 179 fitted on the halfshafts, strange but measured and off to buy
Thanks

Maybe they uprated them when they uprated the drive shafts also, I know my prop came from a 400SE, but they was very badly gone.

Hamish maybe they have been upgraded because of the power diff in the 5ltr.
Better get your act together because not long to BBWF bud.

Could be but thought smaller were not as strong as the bigger ones, they were pretty shot though.

But getting there, new tach arrived today as old one gave up, UJ's ordered so hopefully I can fit them tomorrow night, inline fuel filter also ordered, new fuel pump fitted, few little things to do so back on the road next week with a bit of luck.

Cheers
Hamish

Just out of interest...what are the symptoms of a shot UJ on a propshaft? I'm trying to track down a mystery noise on my car and I can't sus it.

A clunk on take up of drive or gear change, I experienced the latter so decided to change the lot, the driveshafts had a little bit of wear but the prop UJ's rattled around in there housings.

UJ take a lot more abuse then CV joints due to there design, and should be semi treated as a service item, at least with the more powerful cars.

Interesting as I see the more recent TVR's have CV joints on the props.

I knew that they had them on the driveshafts, didn't know about the props though.

The set on my 400 must be about 5 years old at least, probably covered 15-20K miles, including an annual trackday, greased every year, and only on one side is there now the smallest amount of play. I think buying the HS versions with grease nipples and lubing them at least annually is the secret.

I do a lube whenever I have to adjust the handbrake which works out about twice a year.

Having the larger ones makes a big difference to longevity.
