Keep your action and adventure holidays!

Recommend some great places in the UK for doing sweet FA for a long weekend.

Perfect locations for watching the world go by, properly consuming the weekend newspapers and putting the world to rights with your favourite person in the whole world, consuming great coffee during the mornings and exquisite cool beverages for the rets of the day.

Where are these UK gems for those of us who want to do nothing for a few days?

St Mawes in Cornwall. Fantastic spot, no chavs, nice watering holes and plenty to watch. Beautiful.

The Old Post Office in Applecross (B & B)

The Golf View Hotel in Nairn (the view from the bar & gardens is not a golf course, but the Moray Firth)

I concur, though I did see a fox the other day. Thought it might attack me, but it didn't.

What about good for 'people watching' rather than simply isolated?

Just a short distance from there, Portscatho, have been going there for 30 years and wouldn't go anywhere else for a session of total relaxation..

Which is, of course, the correct answer. (For me)

LadyV8 demands the addition of vegetation, unfortunately, and the suggestion of 'a coffee shop next to a greengrocer' wasn't funny. Apparently.

hehe
Henley Regatta next weekend?
Perfect- lovely scenery, plenty of beer spending a day by the river people/scenery watching.
Probably not free though.

scratchchin

Well...somewhere Thames-side could certainly be a good candidate.

Then Marlow.
Lovely place- you can sit in the gardens by the river, have a picnic-rent a boat for an hour.
I often spend a day there (as do lots of other people). Gets fairly busy but not crowded and the atmosphere is good

Cambridge, students are leaving for the summer, a lovely spot next to the river with a picnic and a paper.

Take your own beer and the ultimate must be the National Trust tea room at Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall.
