Help! E39 ignition/water problem, car now not starting.
Discussion
Have had a problem with my M5, that resulting in is misfiring, stopping, and being brought home behind an AA van.
I had the car MOT'ed yesterday, which it failed on two points. One was a broken anti roll bar bush mount, and 2nd was the washer jets were weak. When I got back home, after ordering the mount bits from the BMW dealer on the way back, I had a look at the jet problem.
After a few sprays I found water was pouring under the bonnet. Checking it, I found one of the hoses had popped off the connection to the jet. Connected it back up, and all good.
Picked up the parts for the mount today, and replaced that, then went to take it back for the retest.
It started fine, and was running normal, then it just died after about 10 seconds - I have never had a problem before. It conked out a few more times, so one last time, I fired it back up, and revved it at 2k, and it seemed to settle down, so took it onto the road. Within 200m, it was not happy, not revving/missing, like it had an ignition problem. Pulled over into a business carpark to do a u turn and take it back, where it cut out and when I started it it would just miss/stutter and stop.
Walked home and called the AA. Bloke arrived at home, and we drove up to the car, which I told him that I thought it was water in the ignition electrics - he didn't think it was likely, but after he poked around, and heard it trying to start, he agreed, saying it sounded the same as water in a car with a dizzy.
I can't find any water or steam anywhere. The water was going down the right side of the engine, right at the back of the engine bay. With the AA bloke we checked the coils, but all dry there, and since I have pulled more bits apart. Now it isn't even starting/sputtering. And no check light or message is being displayed on the dash.
Any ideas?
