I'll prepare for the flaming but seeing as I'm going to treat it as a fast road drive rather than a balls to the wall trackday it occurs to me that having the circuit on sat nav would be a useful way of reminding me which way the corners go, even if it won't help with camber or radius.

Anyone ever used a satnav on the ring for this purpose?

If so anyone know where I can find an itinerary file that overs it?

However if you're going fast enough that you need to know the direction of the next corner. You don't have time to be looking at a satnav. You're not going to get lost. Just drive it.

yes If you're looking at the satnav half the time, that is time lost when you could be checking your mirrors for (much) faster traffic. Not a very sensible idea IMHO.

can't see that a quick glance is any more disctracting than the speedo or rev counter tbh

thumbup Not sure why you'd need to look at a speedo?

If it's literally your first lap, then trying to 'navigate' the circuit on a satnav is likely to command a lot of your attention.

It is on most sat-navs.
I have noticed people driving beyond their visual range in a way they wouldn't do on the road, and there is a great corner at Adenauer Forst which gets tight way quicker then you'd expect which is where plenty of people will go off/cut the corner on their first lap.

A great spot for watching. I suppose satnav could be an aide memoir, like pace notes, but the best option is a few easy sighting laps to find out where the tricky bits are, then go out and have fun.
The majority can be done quite easy, decent visibility, but it's the 4-5 unsighted corners and crests you'll need to learn.

There still is the point of driving within visual range though, the M3 /mini crash from earlier this year/end of last year is a case in point.
Knowing the track is one thing, but things can change between laps.

Simple suggestion. Dont do it.

Use a games console to learn the corner directions, it holds your attention more and feeds back more (though no where near the real thing still) than watching you tube videos & the only other way is to go and drive it with two eyes out the windscreen and your peripheral vision clamped to the mirrors.

I've done 32 laps now and I'm beginning to string corners together properly, god knows how many hours I've spent bouncing off barriers on the Playstation beyond that though.
