selling Cerb / buying a griff - Griff advice...?
Discussion
'Thinking' of selling my Cerb and getting a griff - see thread in cerb section
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... about selling...
Sure this has been asked before but am wondering what the major differences are between an earlier car, 92 Pre cat type vs later 500's...thinking about performance, drivability, character, power steering / non assisted, T5 box / Rover box, that sort of thing..?
Had a Chim before for 4 years before the Cerb so know the pros and cons about running one....just wondered what you guys thoughts are?
Choices are sell the Cerb and buy a cheaper Griff (£10 - 12K) or sell the Cerb and find some extra cash for a later Griff (£15K ish)....or do a swap / exchange?
Appreciate your thoughts so thanks in advance

You know the drill already, condition, condition, condition. Wouldn't skip an otherwise perfect car because it had a Rover 'box rather than a T5 (I find little diference between them, far more difference in feel between individual drivetrains regardless of spec), I would only hold out for a serpentine engine if I were to supercharge it, PAS and non-PAS both have their pros and cons, wheels can be swapped, read ARBs added to very early Griffs etc. With these cars, I simply don't think there are 'must haves' or
spec items (apart from aesthetically challenging colour/trim combos).
spec items (apart from aesthetically challenging colour/trim combos). PETE,
May i first congratulate you on your very wise choice,
Cerbs are dropping in price, i think its due to the scare issue with the engine, meanwhile Griffs are going upwards.......
My advise is... My second griff i wanted a yellow 500, i ended up with a mint 4.0 in green,,,,, as always 'CONDITION IS KING', i do actually prefer pre cats, (but this will open up such a debate) so i wont mention it again.
At the money you want to spend your most probably be looking at an early scruffy 500, sell the cerby and sit tight everything turns up in the end.
ALSO...how the hell did you go from a chim 'convertable' to a hard top you must be missing the sun on those special days?????????
All the best in your hunt

Ha
I Live 'Oop North'...we dont get any sun!
Well I fancied a change / more grunt...didnt think I would miss taking to the roof off...and fell in love with the Cerb.
I under estimated how much I would miss having a convertible and, as mentioned in my thread, the driving style of the Cerb doesnt suit how I use my TVR.
The Cerb is a awesome piece of kit though! Brilliant car. Not sure prices are dropping? Maybe not increasing...or not increasing like those of the Griff at the moment.
See how things go...

Bought earlier this year a Griff 500 its a '93 one of the first off the production line so I am told, it nice tidy condition, and paid less than £11K if you look around and you are willing to wait then the right car will turn up. its not perfect (few stone chips and needs things like the boot carpets tidying up etc) but it is honest and has a good Chassis.
good luck with the search
