a bit of common sense!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lancashire/3502058.stm

police said:
The Chief Constable of Lancashire Paul Stephenson says some drivers caught by speed cameras will be cautioned rather than face a fine or a loss of points.
The change will apply to the less serious offences and follows criticism of the use the cameras in the county.

I disagree. This is the thin end of the wedge. When this stupidity started in the 90s I was against it. Against it in any form whatsoever. Speed cameras perform no useful function and are an intolerable breach of basic human rights. All people who think they are a good idea are mutants. The lunatic fringe members of our society are meant to be kept at bay by the government, not made chief constable. The fact that a mutant in Lancashire has now conceded that cameras are often treating people unfairly is proof positive that all cameras should therfore be removed. The rest of you may have been worn down to the point where a compromise looks rosey. I will never be convinced. It is a total mockery of our verdict system for a chief constable to invent a new verdict of a bit guilty, with the punishment being a caution. A caution, who the does this w*nker think he is to sit in judgement of us.

Driving about on roads is dangerous. If you don't want to be in danger then stay at home. The sandalistlentilistthinkofthechilrenists need rounding up, together with the cameras, the bumps and the trafficjamlights and shipping out to a nice open space somewhere with no roads and no commerce. So they can create their own Utopia and leave everyone else to get on with their lives. The chief constable of Lancashire will get a piece of my mind if I get a caution and I would like to bet my mind is a bit bigger than his. (rant over) calm and breathe .....

I agree with you nonegreen.

I have never been one of those "cameras are okay outside schools" people. Cameras are not okay anywhere. I am also against CCTV - but that's a different story.

If there is no other reason to remove cameras (which there are) then the fact that they have been proved to be fallible and have therefore carried out mis-carriages of justice - which people kneel over and take up the - with very little questioning is nothing short of an outrage.

Every person on this planet should do their bit to see this menace removed from our society.

Good rant nonegreen and icamm! Agree!

The scams in Lancs are nowhere near schools!

They use slightest excuse to whack up a scam in a fleece spot though! Fave ploy is to reduce speed limit on nice cosy dual carriageway and then enforce -- by scam!

Then they found a "nice little earner" - the Speed Awareness Course - which they managed to turn into a veritable farce by prosecuting at 31mph (but turning it into "avoid points by course" - except that they have now realised that they are inviting wron people!

Presumably theses 31-35-ers are the ones who will now receive the "stern caution" - which they still do not really deserve, - which begs question - will they now invite the 41-45 in 40 zone to the course instead?

Or even "thinkofthechilDrenists"! or TOTC.

I agree we should get rid of CCTV. Imagine what could happen if the multi-million investment in cameras went towards police instead? I've read that the average person gets CCTVed 300 times a day. But then of course when something happens there's no tape in the video.

I understand that these speed awareness courses are essentially anti-speed propaganda and you don't pass unless you come out spouting that you've seen the light. If you fail then you get the NIP instead. All for 31 in a 30. Thought control, that's what it is.

I wonder how you apply to be Jack Straw's driver? Some being more equal than others....

Personally id take the fine rather than bend over and take a "speed awareness" course in the ass.
In any case, why do i need to attend a "speed awareness" course?
Im well aware of my speeds...its anything over the limits at any particular time, so a speed awareness course really wouldnt float my boat!
Mind you, theres fun to be had in the form of baiting the "preachers" on the "course". Besides, its not actually a course at all. Its an opportunity for them to extract even more cash in the form of a payment of, what is it now? 200 sovs? anyway, itd be cheaper to take the fine than have to pay that AND listen to some "superior" qwacking on about why 31 in a 70 zone is so dangerous...ok yah...

Cant say that theres any merit in being brutally bent over and made aware of your speed in the form of a bill for 200 squideroos, when ya could have just had 60 poonds and 3 points.... then they tell ya that theyve done ya a "favour".
Yeah right. 200 from 200 is zero....60 from 200 is 140......do the math.

Delta do you fancy doing a prolonged 32 in an 30 through Lancs in convoy to see if we can get on the course. The tutors would not know what to do if it was coming at them in stereo.

[quote]But the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership said none of last year's deaths happened in locations where speed cameras were installed.

There all in the wrong place then.
