Yesterday was the longest day and we are getting up about two hours+ after sunrise wasting those hours when we could be having daylight at the end of the day instead.
This article suggests it would make life cheaper and damage the earth less if we stayed on BST and went to an hour forward/back next year.
Which would you prefer?

I would prefer to stay on GMT all year round, the sun should be at its daily zenith at noon. If you want to get the most out of the daylight, get up earlier in summer.

Even on GMT, many parts of the UK have the daily zenith well after noon.edited for rogue apostrophe.

I didn't put GMT all year round as an option because it is very unlikely to happen.
It's not just a helping CO2 and all that b
ks but it would mean lower electric bills as you would be switching on later and the street lamps would come on later.
As the article says when they tried it before road accidents reduced and the associated costs with that.
It must be the cheapest way to reduce costs.

The simpletons who wish for the Status-Quo are either Scots or missing the point.
We have a nine to five culture in UK. To use the available daylight more effectively, change to 8-4 or 7-3. All the evidence points to lighter evenings being overall more beneficial: Road Safety and economic benefits from increased use of after work time for leisure.
Scotland may not like it, but that is of no consequence, they could have their own time zone.
