Possible Morris Project?
Discussion
Hi,
Iv'e been thinking about this for a while and decided to get some opinions.
I really have a hankering to buy a beaten old car and slowly but surely turn it into a mint peice of street sleeper niceness!
I've been thinking about base cars and have decided that a nice Morris Minor would be good. Reasons for this is the price of a car in need of slight restoration being sub £1000, the fact that it has a fairly large engine bay and i hear the chassis is good.
The main factor is that my uncle has a stock moggy sitting in his garage that needs attention!
After deciding a Morris is the car for me i am now thinking about how id go about making it into a sleeper.
Obvious things are subtle if any exterior mods, and the same inside. The real business is the performance side.
I have heard of 3.5ltr rover V8's being a good replacement (in fact my uncle performed this conversion on his own morris) but i want to break the mould and go for an alternative.
I read somewhere its possible to fit a scooby flat four in. Is this plausable? I'am temped by this idea.
Is it also possible to do a 4x4 conversion? or is this just too much hassle?
I guess the possibilities are endless if you have an endless budget but i really dont want it to become a money black hole if i decide to go ahead with it as i dont have the income to fork out thousands and thousands on what i want to be a 'hobby'
I'm not saying im gonna start this immediately, mabye in the next year or two when i've got a more cirtain future ahead of me and a proper plan / budget sorted.
Any help is appreciated thoguh, I'm sure theres a huge knowledge base on here!

Old Lexusususss are cheap, you could use the V8 and running gear from that for the moggy...maybe
Hmm, possible. Arent Lexi? lexuses?? etc a lot wider than a mog? About fitting a Chevvy V8, yes its been done but from what i've researched the handling can be affected as you have a big heavy lump up front. Morris's were originally desgined to cope with a flat 4 which is why i've steered towards a scoob.

How about nissan 4 cylinder turbo with a special dump valve that makes the noise like the Moggy exhaust?
Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbNxugO-uf01275cc A-series, twin SU HS2s, LCB manifold, Imp clutch, get rid of the silencer under the saloon floor, straight pipe run to the back of the car, small silencer behind the rear axle.
Tele dampers all round, Marina front discs, Marina torsion bars, poly bushes, radius arms on the rear axle.
Simple, and effective.
For more go add a supercharger.

Rover K series or Fiat Twin Cam seem to be the preferred engine transplant choices.
Decent Morris Minors sell for quite a bit of cash, both original and modified. So if you have access to a cheap one, go for it!

This might work. Those Lexus v8' are compact engines. And you can get one with a rusty LS400 around it for a few hunred quid...There is a thread somewhere of someone stuffing one in an MX5, and that certainly has a smaller engine bay than the Mog.
