Are there any risks to using an two part system to clean out the gunk in the radiator and water jacket in my vintage vauxhall engine (1926) The system is water tight but prone to run over hot when put into hard work, so I'm guessing the system needs an clean thru. Thanks.

The danger when you use a cleaner is that you are going to find a level of weakness somewhere and then be in a world of hurt as you try to undo what you have just discovered is problematic.

If you can accept the risk then you need to use something like a Holts 2 part system. The key to it is getting sufficient flow and turbulent agitation to dissolve calcification, you need to remove the thermostat if you have one and get it as hot as you can. That will dissolve the rust and calcification. The next issue is to get that stuff out. Consider removing core plugs if you have them, use a lot of water and risne through all the components several times.

As soon as the engine is cleaned inside fill with a 50/50 mix of green coolant and distilled water. The coolant is suited to engines with a lot of cast iron and brass - skimping on the coolant will remove the corrosion protection which can then cause overheating problems.

Hope that helps.
