Just a post to say I have access to the forum again.
My new forward thinking employers don't allow access to the web. Very useful when trying to source bits, bobs and ideas.....Got my home PC sorted ou now.

Anyway my 89 SE is about to have a major service with the engine coming out to replace a cracked exhaust manifold and knackered water pump. Will check the usual other problem points. Hope to be back on the road for March.

Scott.

Hope you get your car back on the road soon. Out of interest what are you expected to pay for a cracked manifold?

Aah,

For a cracked manifold I'd expect to pay £25 ($50)!!

For a new one, SJ is £585 +vat, Others £650 + vat up to £800 !!!

I see you are a Chemist. Do they pay better over there as I couldn't afford one here on Chemists wages but I've moved on to process which pays better.....

Two Chemists with Esprits, but opposite sides of the world !!

Cool! As for chemist/lab techi/Qa etc it really depends on what you do, how good you are at your job and how long you have been there. Food industries don't pay that well, but anything chemical like I am in at the mo pays the best. My employer gives me rises as much as 8% and little as 6% increases each year. Some industries really suck and will pay you the minimum salary with rises to meet inflation and thats it. If you have got a wide range of skills and loads of experience, you would expect to start on 60K minimum NZD and goes up from there. Its common for people to earn more than their boss, due to time spent there, allowances and performance bonus packages.
My background is Microbiology, Auditing, Quality Assurance, R&D and customer support.

My Loti was a treat that I bought myself with my artwork money, so its my way of being able to get ahead and buy lifes little treasues I also intend to buy another little hobby car to sit beside her soon.
