I usually use the short term parking at Heathrow but last week I had a long trip so decided to use a Chaufeur parking firm. Picked my car up on Friday night and proceeded home at X leptons eager for a beer and a few hours on the sofa with the missus after 2 weeks away with work.
Half way home I realise that my Sat Nav is missing off the dash, thought I had better check that the missus had not moved it to her car before I report it. Saturday morning sure enough and we cant find it anywhere and I can definitely remember it being on the dash when I left it.

Now, yes I am a knob for leaving it in view but on the other hand they have full access to the car so it would not have made a difference if I had locked it in the glove box (which is what I do when I leave the car in a public place). I have used this company many times before and have had some niggling concerns (sure I had more fuel than that, christ its filthy where did they park it etc etc) but never enough to really think, "whoa, hold on".
Any way, called them Saturday to be told someone would call me Monday. Called them again this morning to be told they would call me straight back. Called them again this afternoon having still not heard anything and was fobbed off with a "we will conduct an investigation".

So, what comeback do I have against this company? Obviously I am not going to waste my time calling the Police as I sure I will get no joy there. Not going to claim on my insurance as its not worth the excess. Guess its just another one of life's little lessons, never trust any fker (especially if they have purple badges).

Tell them you will be contacting the police if they do not sort it.

If that doesn't get them moving then actually call the police.

The item was in the car when you left it with them... and now it isn't with no signs of forced entry.

They must have a record of who drives each car.

Report - tell the firm they have 24hrs to 'find' or replace it or you'll be having a word with the boys in blue, not to mention the word of mouth implications when you tell all your mates etc...not to use that firm.

You SHOULD get a result - these firms are quite profitable, so should want to keep the peace.

.......unless you're lying about the sat nav ever existing in an attempt to get a nice free unit to make up for the lack of a factory fitted one in the Bimmer??!!

Had the professional nav in a few BMW's and I always use tom tom or similar. BM navs are pants.

Threaten to report them to Watchdog. It can be remarkably effective.

They just sent me a picture of my car entering their compound, sat nav clearly visible on the dash. They have told me to go and buy a new one and send them the receipt. My faith in customer service has been restored.

Result. Although it's worrying that it happened in the first place. Lets hope they conduct an internal investigation.

Thats a great result.

I once used someone similar with my old convertible a few years back. When I got the car back the roof had clearly been opened and put down, as they hadn't put the roof back up properly and locked it in place. I'd never use anyone like that again with my car (I'd only use them with my wifes car ) smile

To some minimum wage car valet a 530D is probably as unnatainable and as much of an upgrade from their 15yr old Vauxhall.

I don't like anyone driving my cars not even the mechanics that work on them.

Great news ! Nice to know that some companies care about their customers. I bet the thieving driver got the sack. I never trust valet parking after that watchdog program...
I used to work for them, as part of my induction I had to do the valet pool. First car was a 911 GT2 with 50 miles on the clock. Guy gave me the keys, tipped me £20 and said "just watch the backend on the roundabouts" !

Same here. There is a dealer near me and I often get to witness the mechanics "test" driving the cars.
