Route suggestion from Cherbourg to Le Mans for Classic

Hi guys

I have always driven from Bolougne to Le Mans in past years, but this time I am coming from Cherbourg. Our convoy is in no particular rush to get there and would prefer a scenic route with somewhere to stop for lunch.

Any recommendations for some nice roads?

Saint Lo - Vire - Domfront - Alencon - Beaumont Sur Sarthe - Le Mans

Done many many times, lovely roads around there

I'd agree - There are some great roads in the "Alpes Mancelles" area, between Domfront and Alencon.

Or push on another 12 miles from Domfront, through to the Forest des Andaines to Bagnoles de l'Orne.
A splendid brasserie "Le Lido" for steaks & pizza on the fountained roundabout in the centre -or for something a slightly higher brow, go to the Restaurant de la Terrase nearby for some local Norman cuisine.

I am not in a massive hurry, but this route looks great. how long would it take?

I put the route through google maps and it came back with around 4 1/2 hours. Of course that's not counting a lunch stop

Can I just second the recomendation of Bagnoles de l'Orne. A lovely place for a stop off, my in-laws have a house not 20 mins from there and we will almost always have a lunch/drink in Le Lido whenever we are visiting. Not tried Restaurant de la Terrase, so will give it a go next time.

The Cafe de Paris near the Casino is very nice too.

From Bagnoles, head to Le Mans via Lassay Les Chateau, Villaines la Juhel, Sille le Guillaume, Conlie and Saint Saturnin. It's a scenic run and the roads are not too slow.

Suggested it to my old man - if anyone sees an Elise and an M3 looking lost on Tuesday, point us towards Le Mans!

Yes yes.
The cornfields with the poppies just before Conlie are quite striking.

That's a great route. Some lovely little towns along the way.
There is a nice little place in Ambrieres-les-Vallees for breakfast (sorry I cannot remember the name).
The roads are good and traffic free. We had a great run down for the last classic, me in my Giulia with a friend in a E30 M3 plus a few we picked up along the way, a Fulvia Zagato and a Lynx D Type amongst others. The roads are generally quiet and you can make the Le Mans ring road in 3 hours comfortably.
