Originally was looking for a Chimaera or 944T, but spotted two M Roasters for sale very close to home.

Car one was a 99 on a T, 76,000 miles with full service history and shed load of invoices from a dealer. It was pretty much immacualte especially the lovely black leather interior. Will have a full years MOT put on it

Car two was a 98 on an R with 54,00 miles and pretty much full service history, wheels could do with a refurb, soft top was a bit tatty and drivers seat boulster a bit scuffed but did come with the hard top. Has just been MOTd and had CV joints and diff bushes done for this.

Car two was a cat D four years ago but appears to have been reapaired very well by a BWW dealer technician using all original parts. It was £2k cheaper than car one.

Car one will swallow all my savings and wont leave any extra to play with but obviously car two will leave spare cash but does need some spending on cosmetic issues and obviously wont have any warranty.

I've almost made up mind what way to go but interested to hear the opinion on here.

Car 1 for me - even with the Cat D on car 2 your description just makes Car 1 sound much better and almost like your selling it more to yourself.......

Unless car two is cheap as chips dont touch it, will only cause pain later when trying to resell. Car one might have higher mileage but if its been well looked after, thats the key.

Car 1.

Car 2. Too many questions. Insurance and resale value. Driven hard and not looked after by the sounds of it.
I am sure in the back of your mind you know that the savings will be lost in niggly faults - This WILL come back and bite you. P

Presuming those are Z3s at that age.

I'd take the Chim(p) in a heartbeat. I certainly wouldn't take the Cat D for £2k, you'll lose at least that moving it on.

You've already decided on car 1, you're just hoping one of us will justify car 2...

Which we wont.........

So would I (and did).

You will be kicking yourself when you are driving your BMW thinking 'If only I'. You know you will.

By the sound of it, car 2 needs to be buyable for getting on half the price of car 1, not 2K less.

I know I know suppose a bit of laziness creeping in as the two Z3M were very close to home where the nearest Chimp in my price range was almost 200 miles away

Car 1 sounds best if it swallows all your savings and leaves you spare cash you wont be able to run the thing, so I guess that leaves Car 2.

Wait for the right Chimaera to come along. I did, it took 3 months of looking at some cr@p, some REAL cr@p, and some I couldn't afford but really wanted to. Then the right car came up at a price (and reasonably local) that gave me enough left to refurb the wheels, new boots all round, new battery and a decent brush over and paint tidy up by my bodywork man.

Every time I start the car I grin like a maniac and with the roof down and an open road I have everything I want biggrin

The Beemers are well built and may make you happy for a while but a TVR makes you smile EVERY time you get in it thumbup
