When wishing to change lanes on a dual carriageway, at what point in recent history did the rules change, such that use of indicators started to mean "I'm going to veer into your lane in 3 seconds, so you'd better get the fk out of the way"

?

It's gone up to 3 seconds now has it? I always remember it as being 0.

Apparently the changes also include the need to make obscene gestures when the car you nearly collide with beeps at you.

You mean they actually bother to indicate? Seems to be a new trend not to indicate at all, and that includes turning into a side street. Cocks.

i thought an indicator was used by said knob head to 'indicate' he was going to take your front end off?

Indeed. I had some bell in a Golf 1.6 stick his indicator on & pull right infront of me today on the M3 this morning. I was already travelling pretty close to the car in front due to a slight concertinaing effect, when this chump decided to fill the already non-existing gap.

I gave him a thumbs up for his amazing spatial awareness, which result in all sort of finger & hand gestures from him. I'm really not sure in which parts of the driving test, it is recommended to acknowledge cutting someone up by calling them a wker rolleyes

An inevitable consiquence of the overloading of the roads and the culminating nose to tail moron parade that are the outer lanes. Admitedly it depends on the exact circumstance, for example if the road is free behind then its a bit rich. However if there is an endless stream of nose to tail traffic I have found the only way to pass the slower vehicle infront is to wait for a space your car can fit into an be assertive about fitting in as no one will be courtious and let off a bit and give you that gap. Technically it's wrong but then so is not moving left when you could and the people forming those nose to tail conveyors never leave their lane except when they reach their exit.

You're doing well if they actually bother to indicate.... most of them don't bother anymore

I see the point, and i could sympathise to an extent if there was an endless queue of nose-to-tail traffic in the lane. There wasn't. There were 2 other cars, then me in lane 2, about a half mile of empty road behind. Nobbie was behind a lorry in lane 1.

Result - ABS at 70mph.

Thats why you have an inside lane so when these nuggets pull out you can pass them on the inside and give them your middle finger

It seems to be an all in one motion, steer right and flick indicator in one fluid motion!

i like to flash the old hazards, pump the fog light and generally hold my arms out the window when lane changing. Just like to keep people on there toes....

As well as lack of notice I also get very irritated by people who start indicating too soon. In other words, they intend pulling out once you have passed, but start indicating when you are still a little way behind them. It leaves you wondering if they are going to do a ridiculous last minute swerve, or possibly have not seen you and will broadside you when you are level with them.

I am sure in their minds they are providing a helpful advance warning of their intentions, but actually they create very dangerous uncertainty. Occasionally the timing has been such that I have had to jump on the brakes very hard in case their move is imminent. Surprise, suprise they remain in their lane waiting for you to pass - oblivious to the stupidity of their actions.

The same issue applies to indication on roundabouts where lack of clarity means you do not know which exit they intend to take. Can these people not put themselves in the shoes of other drivers and imagine what their signals say to other road users?

In some ways I would prefer such morons to do away with signals altogether. At least then you would simply have to live by your wits.

.
+1

However subsequently i have found, now the car is quite noisy i always change down and make some purposful noise when overtaking, tends to keep them in their lane.....

From when people in the outer lane took the other party's indication as a sign to floor it and block them in.

Tbh I don't find it too hard to predict when people are going to change lane.
