Ok I'm looking to get a new workhorse, and have a budget of max £10,500

It needs to be diesel, and have air con and no more than 70k miles - auto would be a bonus. I do about 20k miles a year, of which 15k are motorway miles.

I am open to suggestions... I'd like something a little PHish if possible, something that looks smart, and can move when needed.

Suggestions are welcome!

Mondeo ST TDCI. Love mine to bits, goes quick enough with reasonable economy, and for 10.5k you would get a real good one.

Audi A4 or A6 3.0tdi auto - or an A8 though their bills can be larger (and harder to find one in your budget) but they do have air suspension...

A bit out of budget but it was the first one on the screen hehe

Haggle a bit, although I'm sure there'll be cheaper ones too.

Luurverly car...

however, think twice before going for something so bargey.. I had the old shaped S8, awesome car in every way, except when it came to try and fit the fking thing into a parking space in a packed multi-storey or nuderground carpark.

They just dont fit. At least not to the point you can open the door once you're in the space!

In that respect I found mine quite impractical.

On second thoughts.... get one, it'll be ace! smile

Exactly - practicality is secondary - this is pistonheads and not www.middlelanehoggerecodieselgolfpluslovers.co.uk

I must admit, the A8 did cross my mind, but I did also think about the following points:

1. An A6 for the same price would be easier to find with lowish mileage and with a much bigger choice of cars

2. The A8 would not be great on fuel because of the size and weight

The Alfa GT also crossed my mind, but I'm going to be doing a lot of miles, and thought that the alfa is maybe a little too sporty and would get tiresome on the motorways after a while?

E Class Merc - I used to own an E55 - they break a lot, and from experience anything older than '05 were plagued with issues.

At the moment I think I'm leaning towards an Audi A6 - seems I can get one with under 80k miles, with a decent spec...

Keep the suggestions coming people!

ETA It looks like I can get a top specced low mileage Audi A4 for that price too... the hairdresser in me is thinking

E46 330d coupe sports seem like they can be had with under 60k miles... worth considering?

It's aluminium IIRC so car park dings are a bugger but it's pretty frugal.

The XJ diesel's out of reach but there are plenty of S-types with the 2.7d in budget.

Alfa 159 - loved mine, very comfy on motorway cruise, well within budget.

Would make a great buy, a bit over budget though.

C5 with a diesel engine and air suspension would me a cheap comfy cruiser though.
