Tamiya metallics
Discussion
Not sure is this has been mentioned before but the Tamiya metallics seem to be on sale again. Saw them in Hobbycraft and picked up titanium, chrome and aluminium today.
Also bought the Tamiya Cromwell Mk IV for 9.99 (the one with the diecast lower hull)
Extra bonus was when I got to the till and then got an extra 30% off everything.

Thanks for the info. Also bought the Tamiya Cromwell Mk IV for 9.99 (the one with the diecast lower hull)

What's the score with the 30% off?
By all accounts it is off all models and stuff.
The sign on the shelves under the models seemed to say "30% off all kits with a blue X"
The Cromwell kit (special edition with die cast lower hull) was reduced from 17.99 to 9.99, and I assumed that was the discount.
But then when I got to the till they rang up 4 tamiya paints at 1.49 each and the 9.99 Cromwell kit, AND THEN took 30% off.
So in effect I got the kit for a tenner and each paint for a quid.
I'm just happy I can easily buy the metallic paints again in a real shop.

Don't you think the Tamia metallics are a bit 'flaky' ie they give a mottled effect?

Tamiya TS paint were withdrawn because of chemical content/labelling issues. I have been waiting for them to be reintroduced back to the UK market.
Are these metallic paint that you bought at hobbycraft the same paint as the TS range?
I would have thought so as the small jars of Tamiya acrylic, inc metallic, haven't been in short supply to my knowledge (at least, I've not experienced trouble getting them). Are these metallic paint that you bought at hobbycraft the same paint as the TS range?
The small £1.49 ish jars of Tamiya metallic brush on, have always been availalble from places like Hobbycraft & Modelzone etc. These have the part numbers X**, XF** etc.
The TS paints are the spray cans that have been withdrawn.
My local model shop still has a few of the more unusual old TS cans in stock if anyones interested.
Look up models in motion, Stevenage.

Or something.
All I can say is that I've never had an issue buying them, and I've bought quite a few in the last 12 months, both online (from the UK) and in my local shop.
ETA: If I'd have known there was a shortage I'd have bought in bulk and started punting them out!

Are you saying that you have been able to buy the TS paints in the UK?

To clarify, X, XF brush on & PS plastic sprays are readily available. The TS sprays have been withdrawn only in the UK.
You can still buy these on e-bay from abroad or if you're lucky enough to find a model shop who has old stock.
As i said in my post above, my local model shop still has a few cans of TS on the shelf but only the more unusual colours. HTH.
ETA after dr gn post, our Hobbycraft & Modelzone seem to be fully stocked each week!!

No, not at all. There is, I think, a bit of confusion in this thread. As far as I am aware, as Gareth said earlier, the X, XF etc small jars of acrylic, inc metallic, have been readily available and not in any sort of short supply, hence my surprise by the suggestion that they were (which I may have been reading wrongly).
The TS spray cans have been (as well as Tamiya thinners) in short (read not really available except personal import) supply.
Jackal / dr_gn: are you meaning TS sprays or X / XF brushable acrylics?

"Where has all the paint gone?
Due to labeling issues the following paints have been withdrawn from sale:
All TS and AS ranges
X-10, X-11, X12, X-13, X-31, X-32, X-33, XF-16 and XF-56
PC-12
All paints have been returned and will be replaced with the correct labeling as soon as possible.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused."
AFAIK the X-10 to XF-56 range mentioned above are all metallics...This corresponds with what I was told by all three of my LHS's (one of which is a Modelzone).
